Where should I get my first job?

Kinda like my other thread, I need help with a decision. I need to make at least 5,000 dollars to buy a Datsun 280z and to fix it from the ground up. I'll be getting a workers permit (since I'll be 15 this fall) and am going to be working during the summer and might partially work during the school year. With the Z I'm going to add in after market brakes and suspension along with switching bumper out so it resembles a 240z more than a 280 and have it painted in a shiny midnight blue. I'll also be redoing the interior if it's in bad condition and I'm going to rebuild the engine with a friend and fix up the rust if it has any.

The real question is where should I work? I want to make about 8,000-9,000 dollars "hopefully" and at minimum make 5,000 or 6,000 dollars from working during the next summer vacation period.

You'll be needing parts. Why not try to get a job at a Nissan dealer or auto parts store?

When I was a young lad I worked in an auto parts store. If you get yourself a job at a real old-school auto parts store as a counterman, you'll be amazed at how much you learn about cars. Moreover, you'll be in constant contact with mechanics of whom you can ask questions.

I had a '69 Camaro and a '71 240Z when I worked as a counter man and learned a lot about keeping those cars alive and well.

Yeah, many people have told me to do so and work at a dealer and sweep the place up. The Nissan dealers only ten minutes away from my house but I constantly searched their website and I don't think they sell classic cars but will I come across any as I work there? Oh it's also behind a carmax and a ferrari and lambo dealerships, but there's plenty of garage carshops around here and I know a group of some guys who have some Datsun and 240sx project cars so I'll hang out with them sometimes.

aside from a parts store or dealership wich are awesome places for starting jobs. ( i worked at napa in their distribution center, made 11.23 an hour full time hard hard labor in the packing line ) you can also do contruction to make good quick money. usually general laborers start at 10 an hour but might be hard to find a contruction job right now. dont settle for a fast food joint. only food place i worked at was a pizza joint. made 20 bucks a night in tips minimum. i lived off that money and spent my paychecks on whatever i wanted.

Yeah, I'm planning on asking for car money instead of presents on my birthday in two months and same for one of my upcoming religious holidays and christmas Awesome thing is I have a family member who's opening a banking account for me starting with 500 dollars so my parents won't be able to bug me about my money which is nice. I kinda over though the money part but I'll have a good amount of time to make that much. Especially with the Datsun classifieds you can find some pretty cheap good condition Datsuns, only problem is they're kinda far away from the east coast so a good few hundred dollars will be spent towing the thing here if I find one too far out but in pretty nice condition.

On a side note my dad might let me have his red 2003 Mitsubishi galant but he wants to trade that in and he said he wants to buy me a car but we're not that wealthy so I see him throwing in a couple hundred for my car. Edit: y'know I think I'll just take a receptionist job opening there at the nissan dealer.

The strange thing is there's a Nissan building here but I'm not exactly sure what that building is in charge of because I've tried to research it online but nothing comes up so I might pay them a visit.

ya screw applying online. ive sent in resumes online (luckily i got an interview where im at now because i sent in my resume via email) but im sure the reason i got the job was because impression in person. if they want you to do an online app. go in person meet the hiring manager or whoever will do the hiring. talk with him/her go home fill out an ap and put in resume if needed and call back a few days later. tell them you submitted an app. then if you still hear nothing. do another walk in and talk to the same person. let them know how much you want the job and be presentable. youll be fine.

How much do you think I can get for receptionist or body manager and order body parts for the shop there? I might clean the cars and sweep the lot there if they don't have thos other positions open at the moment.

Expect to begin at the lowest position on the totem pole. A management position as your first, entry-level job WILL NOT HAPPEN, so set your sights a bit more realistically. Unless you possess particularly valuable talents, you can expect minimum wage or perhaps a bit more, depending.
