Almost a barn find

Hey,

Been almost a year since my last Z, was a 260, awesome, but couldnt keep all three cars at the time. That was my 4th Z,

Anyway I finally found my dream Z, Bought it just a couple of days ago, and love it all over. Cant beat the 70's green. But was so excited I probably didnt realize what a gem I'd found til after I drove it back, and got my thoughts together.

Here are the stats:

7/73

Almost 44K orig miles. (odo hasnt been around again) You can tell by the condition, and feel of the car.

Matching eng numbers, original flat top carbs, etc.

Orig tan interior, original carpets, not torn at all, just dry and crunchy!

4spd orig box with the original clutch apparently.

Rubber seals are all in good, shape too. No 'cliff hangers'

Original paint. No cracks, touch ups, or resprays at all, or fender benders. Coulple of dings on the drivers door but you cant tell as they're not that bad. Front bumper has a ding also. but again nothing major.

1 dash crack

Everything works,

Minor surface rust in the battery tray underneath. Straight undercarrige with a bit of flaking, but no holes or rot.

Does have a different exhaust, makes it sound much better. But thats the only mod I can find.

Also has the orig radio.

So am really happy with my find. Havent been on the site for awhile, but thought I would see about what the consensus was:

Carb conversion: I have webbers, and round tops, that came with the car. As I mentioned it has the dreaded flat tops which are running way too rich at the moment and flood the engine out at iddle. I’ve done the round top conversion before on my 260 but wanted to see about giving the webbers a shot. My old man is all for them, but I am thinking they use alot of gas and are better serving on the track, rather than just running around town, etc, which the car will be used for. Otherwise will just slap on the round tops, which is what I was planning.

Value: What do we think the car is actually worth?

Thanks in advance

:)

I love this game...guess the value of the car...one of my favorite.

Given the 2 pictures and provided information I will say $4K (plus or minus $2K). Need engine pics and interior pics to offer a better estimate and reduce the tolerance. Hard to tell if the paint has been oxidized, what do frame rails and floor pan look like, how bad is rust under battery. How original is the engine. Original spare? My '73 still has the original exhaust system and it has 147K miles.

Throw on the webbers or round tops and you reduce the value of the car. Reduce by $1K for the webbers, Reduce by $500 for the round tops. Only because the car seems very original. The more you change, the less it would interest me. ( Just my opinion-I am sure there are others that feel different)

If you can salvage the paint, maybe add $1K to $2K for that. How's the chrome?

'73 probably not the most desirable year: 70, 71, 72 would be better.

All in all, VERY NICE CAR. I love the color. Congrats on the find.

Overall, it looks like a pretty nice car. In this market, my guess on value is $6-8K, probably closer to $6k in its current condition and location (So Cal). I'm basing that on:

-It's the less desirable 1973 model year

-If the paint it original, it looks flat and sun damaged. If it can be buffed out ok, that will increase the price.

-The dash is cracked. I don't think it matters much if it is one crack or 10.

-The carpets are "dry and crunchy", to me, that means they need to be replaced and the rest of the interior is probably sun damaged also.

You should post pictures of the surface rust in the battery tray and of the floors and undercarriage to get a better guess at the value.

That car detailed inside out, and with a paper trail to verify mileage would sell for 10k + in the N.J. / N.Y. area.

Ztherapy's polished roundtops ( I have them) are gorgeous carbs. Putting a couple of hundred into original hoses, caps etc and detailing.Would make this car really stand out. Very nice ,keep it original as much as possible. That is the best color combo imo.

I like ya style rick,

Will clean up the SU's and begin the upgrade.

Thanks for all the inputs

:classic:

I cant comment on worth but you could definitely get more on the east coast as mentioned. Nice find! I love that interior! Mines just like it but I have a after market steering wheel with the same saddle leather brown on it.

I love this game...guess the value of the car...one of my favorite.
