Posted August 30, 201014 yr comment_329545 I have several spots of rust on my 75 280z that havent gone through yet, just needs to be treated, stopped, and primered. Just wondering what kind of product everyone else has used to do such a thing. After that is done there are several products that can be used to treat the metal and prevent future rust. POR5, zinc based epoxy, Rust Bullet. There are products at your local auto parts store that will work if the proper preparations are made. August 31, 201014 yr Author comment_329573 Thank you! So the first step is to sand it down to bare metal, then treat it then prime it, im guessing? I appreciate the help. Its a big learning process for me. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/36939-rust-treatment/#findComment-329573 Share on other sites

Its a big learning process for me. That's basically what I did. Depending on where the rust is and how bad it is a grinder or a wire brush cup on a drill may be faster or more suitable. It's a learning process for me too. Fortunately I didn't have a lot of rust to deal with but it was more than I had originally thought. Sometimes the rust is well hidden There are people here who are much more knowledgeable at body work and rust fighting than I am. August 31, 201014 yr comment_329614 Rust forms little pits in the metal, so it's hard to get all of it just with sanding. Try using Naval Jelly on it. That will dissolve out the rust. It's a slow process, but it's quite thorough. You can get the bulk of the rust by sanding, but finish off the process chemically.
