Posted September 1, 201014 yr comment_329686 My Haines Manuel recommends to drai the cooling water at two plugs. One is the radiator's and another one should be on the left side of the engine. I can't find what Haynes means. Where is it ? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/36956-engine-water-drain-plug/ Share on other sites

September 1, 201014 yr comment_329703 It's on the left side (drivers) of the block towards the back. It just looks like a bolt screwed into the side of the engine block. I wish I had a clear picture, but unfortunately I don't. September 1, 201014 yr comment_329706 Directly below the heater connection to the cylinder head, immediately forward of the starter motor mount. It is on the down hill side of the engine, not the intake side. September 1, 201014 yr Author comment_329721 Hi all, thank you for your nreplies.Johnny'O, it's on page 37 (cooling), chapter 2.4bobc, is it that big plug underneath the exhaust of cylinder 6 ?Nissanman, thanks for your helpful support. Unfortunately I forgot to mention my Z is a '72 240, but a friend of mine has a fourcylinder Fairlady roadster and when we talked he had the same question. I will pass your picture on to him.Rolf Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/36956-engine-water-drain-plug/#findComment-329721 Share on other sites
September 1, 201014 yr comment_329722 The drain one your 240 is in the same location as in Nissanman's picture. Pretty much the same for all L series engnes, 4 or 6 cylinder. That picture won't help your friend and his Fairlady roadster since those engines are different. September 1, 201014 yr comment_329724 Is it just the time of day or is age getting to me? All L-6 series blocks I've seen in Z's have the drain on the intake/exhaust side (left side) on the block down under the #5-6 exhaust area. I've seen a couple of different sized heads, but its always in the same place. Someone tell me I'm not crazy!Jim Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/36956-engine-water-drain-plug/#findComment-329724 Share on other sites
September 1, 201014 yr comment_329747 OK Jim, you're not crazy. I just re-did my motor (F54, N42) and that's exactly where it is. Damn hard to get to without removing the manifolds. Not impossible, but hard to get any kind of leverage under there.Cheers, Mike Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/36956-engine-water-drain-plug/#findComment-329747 Share on other sites
September 1, 201014 yr comment_329757 Regardless of where the plug is, you're still crazy! Sorry, couldn't resist. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/36956-engine-water-drain-plug/#findComment-329757 Share on other sites
