rocker arm...

Howdy...

Earlier today I was running the '74, I had an intake rocker arm come off under acceleration. All seems fine now, got 'er back on and adjusted it up, nice and quiet again and hitting on all six.

What would cause this? It wasn't over revved, and hasn't seemed noisy.

Motor seems fine, although tomorrow I think that I will adjust all the valves just to play it safe....

And yes I adjusted them hot....

Thanks!

My first thought would a combination of old, tired valve springs and rocker arm retaining springs. Valve adjustment could have been way off too. Good idea to adjust them every 10k. Adjust them and if it happens again then you might need new springs. Also check for unusual wear on the cam lobe and where it makes contact with the rocker arm.

I thought the same thing but the motor only has around 36k since it was put together....

I could almost bet ya that the previous owner more than likely never adjusted the valves, it's strange, they make no noise what-so-ever....

Have a great night and thanks for the quick post!!
