240 halfshafts

If they are a four bolt inner flange style and your diff has the four bolt flange side axles then yes they will bolt in. Unfortunately, diffs get swapped on these cars over the years and there is a R180 style halfshaft with a splined shaft and a center bolt that was used over the years. You really can't rely on what was "stock" on these cars 40 years ago because owners and mechanics do crazy things.

Agreed...it's a puzzle trying to figure what was done and why sometimes. Knowing the rule of thumb that 280z halfshafts are shorter because of the wider r200 diff... I need a set and have sourced some from a "stock" 77 auto. Just wanted to be sure they are the longer ones I need since it's an r180 as well. I'll just need to be sure they are four bolt flange style like mine...not the splined ones. Thanks for the help, John.

That is not true. I've measured probably 3 dozen 240/260/280Z halfshafts, Tony D has measured some known 280Z halfshafts for me, and a number of local 510 and 240Z racers have used 280Z halfshafts interchangeably on their racing cars. No one has measured any difference in halfshaft comrpessed/extended lengths between the various model cars.
