Posted September 11, 201014 yr comment_330580 So I bought a 1976 280z, fuel injected and automatic trans. The plate on the inside of the engine compartment (injector side) reads:Type: HLS30Engine No.: L24 080617However the engine block reads:L28 084935And the vin is HLS30-65361I'm not sure if this means anything, it just got me curious. If anyone could translate this stuff into english for me, that'd be great! Thanks a lotJohn Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/37063-numbersarent-matching/ Share on other sites
September 11, 201014 yr comment_330583 Please provide pictures. It looks like the engine compartment plate is not the one your car came with from the factory - L24 would indicate a 240Z. September 11, 201014 yr Author comment_330584 Here is a picture of the block number, and the plate. Might be hard to see the numbers, but they are as posted above. Thank you! September 11, 201014 yr comment_330585 That number plate (and the HLS30-65361 VIN) is definitely from a '72 240Z, not a 280Z. What is the VIN as shown on dash, door jamb plate, and as stamped in the firewall? September 11, 201014 yr comment_330587 Yeah, I am curious about this one too. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/37063-numbersarent-matching/#findComment-330587 Share on other sites
September 11, 201014 yr Author comment_330589 The door jamb plate is not 100% legible, but the VIN is clear. It is, HLS30-65361. The VIN on the dash plate is completely gone. And I looked thoroughly throughout the firewall, but couldn't any sign of numbers. Where is this stamp usually? Thanks again, Arne. September 11, 201014 yr comment_330590 look on the drivers side firewall in the engine bay just above the brake booster. It sounds like you have a 240Z with a 280z engine swap. What does your title say?John Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/37063-numbersarent-matching/#findComment-330590 Share on other sites
September 11, 201014 yr comment_330591 Things noted so far.1) Both tags are 240 tags.2) Engine tag is shown mounted by washer bottle on the left side. Not the correct spot for a 240. (not sure where they go on 280's)3) WE need more pics of the car/engine bay/interior. September 11, 201014 yr Author comment_330593 The stamp above the brake booster says HLS30-297637…and then the VIN on the title says HLS30-65361…I'm confused? Does that means it IS in fact a 76 280z? And if so, someone changed the plates with that of a 72 240…? September 11, 201014 yr comment_330595 which makes absolutely no sense if they sold it to you as a 280. Perhaps the last owner bought a 280 without a title and then bought a 240 with a title and switched plates and sold it as a 280 with a title but with 240 #'s.
