Convention Awards

I was surprised there was only a first place trophy awarded for stock 240Zs. I take that to mean there was only one 240Z entered in the stock class, which is really surprising given the number of cars a the convention this year. I think people must have entered into other classes like Daily Driver, Street Modified, or People's Choice instead. If that it the case, does it mean that anyone with a 240Z could have gotten a 2nd or 3rd place trophy just by entering in the stock class? It's pretty sad if that is the case.

Unfortunately, I think this is the state of affairs in the Z world. I was at the 2010 JCCS last weekend and of the approximately 40-50 Z'z, I am guessing maybe 5 would qualify as 'stock' . 'Stock' is used very loosely at the show. For some people, it means they haven't added a turbo or V-8 to the car yet. Otherwise people with custom colors, custom interiors, excessive chrome and numerous motor alterations were calling there 240's stock. (Funny, I entered my yellow one in the 'modified' category and it was probably closer to stock than most of those in that category. The yellow color disqualifies me immediately).

I personally prefer the the stocks and usually end up talking with most of those owners. As always, the social part of the show is the best part.

I am guessing a lot of the 'stockers' leave their cars at home, maybe feeling they can't compete with the mods. Fortunately, at the JCCS, the judges are pretty good at spotting the nice stock cars, and typically they get the top awards. This is typically not the case in a peoples choice award shows.

I have a lot more to say on this subject but will save it for another thread

I drove my car down to Nashville to attend my first national Z Convention and entered my car to be judged in the Street Modified class. I am shocked to learn that only one car entered the stock class.

When I began the refresh of my 72 240Z three years ago, I made a conscious decision that I would not bring the car back to 100% stock as defined by the ZCCA judging standards, I want my car to be 95 to 98% stock with the exception of some things like the slotted wheels, side stripes, polished aluminum in the engine bay, which I choose based on my personal preference. Having said that, in my opinion, there were many 240 Z's being judged at the convention that could have, or perhaps should have been entered in the stock class.

I agree with Rich that I have a lot more to say but will wait to see where this thread goes.

I think 240Z are meant for flogging the turns a bit over the speed limit.

Double the speed limit :). I have one of those. That's the yellow one. I'm betting in another year or two the yellow one has an RB25DET in it.

The idea of treating a Z machine like a model T just doesn't jib to me...

And I have one of those kind too. Most appropriate place for it to be besides my garage is in the DHM where people can see it. It is one of a kind.

Nice to have one (or more) of each :)

Maybe when I get older and more mature... But not now or too soon....

Not just a Z - ZDisease

Jay,

If some of us like to keep our Z's mostly stock it does not mean we drive them like a Model T. I like to drive my car fast. I put 2500 miles on the car driving to the convention in Nashville. Our average cruise speed was 75 mph and I pushed my car well beyond that speed a half a dozen times. Three of us also drove the Tail of the Dragon in North Carolina on the trip home. There were no Model T's on that road!

Most Z owners love their car because of the performance and handling and joy they are to drive. There is no reason why a stock Z's can't be driven hard.

I to am surprised about there only being 1 stock 240Z in the show at the convention. I pride myself on keeping my '72 Z as stock "as possible". I to have chosen a very few slight modifications (slotted mags) based on personal choice and I agree there were many 240's that should have been entered in the stock class that were most likely in the daily driver class. To bad!

On a slightly different note.....for those of us who particpated in the judged show - will we get to see our score sheets? Will they be sent to us? I would like to know what I lost points on. Nothing has come in the mail yet????
