September 15, 201014 yr comment_330919 I want my car to be 95 to 98% stock with the exception of some things like the slotted wheels, side stripes, polished aluminum in the engine bay, which I choose based on my personal preference. Having said that, in my opinion, there were many 240 Z's being judged at the convention that could have, or perhaps should have been entered in the stock class. It would be nice to hear from some of those who have judged at the show comment on this subject. I would consider any item that was available from the dealer at the time acceptable as stock. Such items as the 5 slot 14" mags and side stripes, I would consider stock (I think those were dealer options). Even dealer installed AC would fall into the stock category. Things I consider not stock ( that are often found on the 'stock vehicles'):-non-stock paint color-rims larger than 14"-chroming of non-chromed parts-missing smog-headers (debatable if they have smog ports that are used)-lowered springs-racing seatsJust my thoughts,Rich Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/37093-convention-awards/?&page=2#findComment-330919 Share on other sites
September 15, 201014 yr comment_330924 Dealer options are not considered "stock" as the ZCCA judging rules state stock to be as it came from the factory. You can have any non-stock part you want or remove it but you will have points deducted for doing so.Thems the rules.... September 15, 201014 yr comment_330928 Keep in mind the dealer didn't just add mags and striping to cars as options. They also added moon/sun roofs as well as is the case with mine. I know for sure that wouldn't be concidered stock.... September 15, 201014 yr comment_330931 I didn't judge the car show so I can't really comment on most of this discussion. However, as gnosez points out, "stock" is defined as how the car arrived from the factory in Japan. There is literally no way to document the authenticity of what might be considered dealer installed so the issue has been eliminated. But let me venture into the wild and point out that by 1972 Datsun had a published document of optional items available in the American market. This document is only similar to the authentic Nissan options available in other markets and Japan. A search through this site will bring up threads that discuss the differences. Dealer installed AC used to be the only dealer installed item allowed without a deduction in the stock class, but that exception was removed last year when the rules were revised.-Mike Edited October 24, 201014 yr by Mike B Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/37093-convention-awards/?&page=2#findComment-334244 Share on other sites
