jmortensen Posted September 21, 2010 Share #13 Posted September 21, 2010 Something weird going on there. Ira is 2 seconds slower than Epperly and he is 12 seconds off the pace. Did it rain or something?

Bruce Palmer Posted September 21, 2010 Author Share #15 Posted September 21, 2010 Hey, this seems to have gone from a friendly public service announcement to I took you guys to raise!! kidding, just kidding!!Here's what I know. Pam said this morning that (as she said yesterday) it was hotter than yesterday by a fair amount, BUT the skies were still ugly. You flat-landers know what the next possibility is..... I told her that if those ugly clouds turn a sickening green to head for a culvert 'cause the canopy over the racecar will be on it's way to Kansas...... She just called again and said Ira went out just long enough to scuff some tires and he's still shown #2 qualifier from yesterday. Steve, however, was a couple of seconds faster than the third Z whose name escapes me and there's more left. Gotta love cell phones and the internet..... jmark Posted September 21, 2010 Share #16 Posted September 21, 2010 (edited) Greg was just bedding brakes and other prep stuff. His crew chief said everything is perfect. It's the best of three Q sessions and Brakke and Greg have strong times on the front row. FWIW Greg set fastest lap in the rain at last years Runoffs. So he is quick in the rain. Bruce Palmer Posted September 22, 2010 Author Share #17 Posted September 22, 2010 I just watched the GT2 race from last year's runoffs. Boy, that is a long drawn out affair of a race track. Hooeee!
Bruce Palmer Posted September 22, 2010 Author Share #18 Posted September 22, 2010 Final Qualifying session Steve will be starting twelfth having peeled five and a half seconds off of yesterday's time. Looking at #1 & #3 starting positions it appears that knowing the race track has it's benefits. Based on where these two live this has to be home track for both. Are these two brothers? Don't anybody call mid-day Friday bugging me wanting to buy stuff!!
jmark Posted September 23, 2010 Share #19 Posted September 23, 2010 ^ Yea there brothers. Steve is a fast learner on a very fast track. Hopefully Greg & him have a good race.
Bruce Palmer Posted September 23, 2010 Author Share #20 Posted September 23, 2010 Jmark, Do you know what weight these Miatas are required to carry? Apparently they are so light they are real easy on brakes compared to the Z. Just killing time waiting for tomorrow.
jmark Posted September 23, 2010 Share #21 Posted September 23, 2010 ^ Not sure what they are allowed to weigh. They are quite a bit lighter. Should be a good race to watch.
rxsleeper Posted September 23, 2010 Share #22 Posted September 23, 2010 (edited) FWIW, a well prepped Miata will be tough in EP. I know in SEDIV there are a couple that are running ITS and dang they are quick. They make speed in different places Bruce. More of a momentum car than a point and shoot. Greg will be a handful for them and Steve should be! Go get 'em guys! (makes note to call Bruce at 1:28 Friday September 24 to discuss carb tuning ;) ) I checked the weights, looks like #2075-2179 depending on which gearbox, etc they are running compared to #2200-2310 for Z's Edited September 23, 2010 by rxsleeper
Bruce Palmer Posted September 23, 2010 Author Share #23 Posted September 23, 2010 And then there were two. Just got off the phone with Steve and he said the third Z was totaled in yesterday's session. Apparently head on into a Miata that had looped just beyond the kink. Everybody is okay, but I have to ask myself (since we're on the subject of which cars weigh how much) which car would I want to be in when that 90 mile an hour impact took place? When you figure the competitor cost involved in doing the Runoffs, to toss the cost of a car in on top of that..... BRrrrrr! And yes, feel free to call tomorrow, but understand the cell phone (which is "communication central" for Zed Therapy) will be buried at the bottom of my sock drawer. nyuck nyuck

Everybody is okay, but I have to ask myself (since we're on the subject of which cars weigh how much) which car would I want to be in when that 90 mile an hour impact took place?Terrible news, I'm sorry to hear that. The kink has taken out many cars over the years, probably the most dangerous portion of the track. I checked the GCR, 90-97 Miata min weight(s): 2175 carbs, 2225 f.i., brakes are 10" vented fr, 9" solid rr. As for which car to be in during a wreck... it's a toss up IMO.
