Getting into Motor Sports (Helper Available)

Zealous

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

If anyone is racing in the northern california area (Thunderhill, Laguna Seca, Infineon, Buttonwillow) and would like a helper/crew person please contact me.

I am trying to get some crew experience with racecars (especially Datsuns) and also hopefully learn a lot about tracks and how events operate. At the moment I am working on my street Z, getting some seat time at HPDE and also experience by attending events, as I save for the racecar (hopefully an existing ITS 240z). I am also looking into volunteering with SCCA or NASA for events. I know motor sports is not a cheap or easy thing but it can be very rewarding and have been doing lots of research on the subject as too the first steps.

A few here race on weekends and so if you ever need an extra set of hands let me know I would be more than willing to donate my time and help as much as possible.

JC,

I help a friend with his endeavor in roadracing. The car is a Factory Five Racing GTM(sort of) and it is the only one like it in the world. We race it in endurance races mostly at Thunderhill, Buttonwillow, Infineon, and Laguna Seca, although we did take it up to Pacific Raceway near Seattle earlier this year. Can you say RAIN??? You are more than welcome to come and help out anywhere you can as this is an all volunteer effort. You can visit the website at www.pdg4.com for lots of photos and cool videos. I know it's not a Datsun and it couldn't be farther from it, but we promise an awesome adventure every time out to the track. Our next race is Oct. 9th at Buttonwillow. Feel free to contact Richard via the PDG website or I can put you in touch with him.

Cheers,

Will

Look into crapcan racing. There are lots of races at the tracks you mentioned and teams are always looking for crew members. If you hook up with an established team, you will learn a lot and can easily get into driving at a reasonable cost. Because it's endurance racing, there will be a lot more time at the track and opportunity to learn. Don't let the format scare you away. The racing is very real. ChumpCar is a bit more conventional and competitive, but both are fun.

There are quite a few teams that race Datsuns, but don't limit yourself. Get your feet wet with an established team and soak it all in.

JC,

There is a NorCal UFO Autocross event this Sunday at the Marina Air Base in Monterey. Although it is not a team or anything big, it's a nice little event they have monthly. You should come out! Text me if you are interested, I'll forward you the info.

Cheers,
