Agreed value. What's it worth?

I seriously doubt that you talked to anyone at Hagerty. I and hundreds and hundreds of other Z car owners have dealt with them for decades - and none of us have been given that information.

More than likely you talked to some local Insurance Agent that can handle business though the Hagerty and they are very badly mis-informed.

FWIW,

Carl B.

+1, never heard this from Hagerty. Don't know why this myth won't go away...

Hagerty has given me no issues, and I use my Z's as I please. I even used them for a major claim on my turbo 280Z. They have been nothing but great. They haggled with the resto shop to keep my Z from being totalled. ;)

Whatever you do, stay about 10% - 15% above what the car would cost to replace. Ask me how I know.

This is direct from Hagerty's website Q&A section:

What are your usage restrictions/guidelines?

Simply put, we want you to enjoy your classic vehicle. While there are some restrictions in the policy, you’re covered for pleasure use, whether it's a drive on a gorgeous summer day, a trip to the ice cream shop, attending club events or going to shows. If you have specific questions about usage, especially if you own a newer vehicle (generally 1990 and newer), we're happy to discuss them with you.

Can I race my car?

Our program is not designed to provide coverage for vehicles while they’re being raced. However, we do offer off-track coverage for motorsports vehicles. For more details, see Motorsports.

Carl & Others,

It's not a myth and I'm not making this up guys...

I called Hagarty directly from the contact information on their website. I too was very surprised at the response I got, as it didn't match the verbage on the website.

Like I said, maybe I got a bad operator/agent who was having a bad day, but that's exactly what I was told... Perhaps I'll give them another try.

I have my blue Z insured with State Farm. It is an agreed to value of $14K. I have not bumped it up in a copuple of years, so it is probably too low. Anyway, I can drive it for pleasure up to 2,500 mile per year. I can occasionally drive it to work, as long as I don't drive it every day. This coverage costs me around $50/6mos. I store it in the winter, which knocks in down to under $10 for the other 6 months.

All I had to do was send them pictures and the value that I wanted on the policy.

I have had this policy for about 10 years and I am very happy with it.

Marty

OK. I did the "web chat" thing with Hagarty this morning.

The operator said it was OK to use the car on a weekend pleasure trip. Also no problem to drive into work occasionally to show the car to co-workers, just that it should not be used as a daily driver.

Both are very different responses than I got previously, (and represent what I was hoping to hear the first time). I don't understand why the first contact was so different, but I now plan to call them to get a quote for insurance and road service later this week.

From what I have seen, having an agreed value would be the only way to recover the value of the car. I used Hagerty with my cobra replica, since then I get mine through Statefarm and is very reasonable, assuming the car is an extra car.
