Posted September 28, 201014 yr comment_331986 A member from the NE messaged me about his difficulty in locating a supplier for 920 Gold. I use a local auto paint supplier that is a PPG outlet, this color formulation is in the PPG computer. It is available in the old single stage acrylic enamel as well as the more current two-stage finishes.Jim Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/37228-paint-formulation-for-920-gold/ Share on other sites
September 28, 201014 yr comment_331992 My bodyman is painting my car as we speak......he said the single stage PPG wasn't a good match. He is using PPG Deltron 2 stage. If you need further info, I'll be glad to contact him for you. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25643&page=6The color match is incredible! September 28, 201014 yr Author comment_331997 Most licensed shops today can't/wont touch the old single-stage paints due to regulatory issues - way too many VOCs are released. I only mentioned it because it is still available to the DIY'rs.Your 920 Gold effort is looking outstanding! I hope to see mine back from the paint shop in about a 3 weeks.Jim Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/37228-paint-formulation-for-920-gold/#findComment-331997 Share on other sites

September 28, 201014 yr comment_332011 PPG is the way to go for 920 Gold. I recently finished mine and the match was a close as can be expected 40 years later. September 28, 201014 yr comment_332014 Prehaps the codes on these color cards would help. Keith Edited September 28, 201014 yr by zed2 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/37228-paint-formulation-for-920-gold/#findComment-332014 Share on other sites

September 29, 201014 yr comment_332053 Hi guys my 70 is currently at the paint shop and they recommended me to use maxmayer paint rather than ppg. Actually I'm not sure which one is closer to 920 safari gold. September 29, 201014 yr comment_332089 PPG is the ONLY way to go Gold..... I'm quite pleased with the color, the match to the original and the gloss. The color looks pretty close to me. Mine is just not as glossy even with 4 coats of Zaino show wax. I also wonder if the color has shifted a bit due to 40 years of aging. And then again, the lighting is a factor. So many variables with color. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/37228-paint-formulation-for-920-gold/#findComment-332089 Share on other sites
September 29, 201014 yr comment_332097 My painter had the area under the windshield rubber to compare.....the match was amazing. You're right .....lighting makes a big difference.....from picture to picture can vary, but in person the match is exceptional.
