Need advice and a guiding hand

Ok I have NEVER owned an import, and although my 1972 240Z is an import I really don't look at it as one just because of the cool factor it has. My builds have always been old school hotrods. V8 Vegas, Pintos, Gremlins ect. My weak spot is small cars with thumping V8's. However that being said I really don't want to V8 the lil 240. It is just totally new and very cool to me to have a straight 6 in a tiny car. I would like to build a 6 for it. But I have no clue where to start. Do I stay with a L24 or go L28? I want to stay carb'ed and do not want to use puters, ect. That being said I am not looking to get the same performance out of a 6 I would get by shoving a 383 stroker in it. Not looking to break the bank either. Just want to build a very healthy 6. Can someone point me in the direction of a good build article or maybe share what they did to one they have built? Thanks in advance.

Rob

Search will help you a lot. Here is a good guide for understanding the straight 6 motors and ancillaries that can be swapped from later models. To have "a very healthy 6" without spending a lot of money.

I would suggest reading a lot and over the many guides and websites there are several out there.

The site linked in the reply above will give a decent starting point, using an L28. You do do something similar with an L24, of course. While not everyone will agree with every detail there, if you duplicated what he did, the results would be reasonably good.

The only thing I'd add is that if your car is still in good, original condition, make sure you save the numbers-matching original motor for later. That can be a nice selling point should you later decide to part with it.

Not looking to break the bank either.

Hi Rob:

Are you looking to spend $4K on an engine, $6K, $8K??? Being specific about the budget helps greatly in narrowing down recommendations.

Truth be told, for what he charges I'd be ordering a L6 Stroker from Rebello. It would be done right the first time and you'd be driving the car in a day to do the swap.

FWIW,

Carl B.

I can totally agree with Carl on this one. To expand, Rebello offers 2.7L, 3.0L, and 3.2L motors. Plenty to play with :) Although costly, I do not know anyone else that offers warranty on race motors.
