Horn's not working!

I need my horn working in order to get trough inspection wich is in this week. Connectors in front are ok and horns itself are also in mint condition. They worked few months ago but now nothing. Could the problem be in the steering wheel wires? I've recently changed new ignition key but i put all the wires back as they were. What particular wire is for the horn?

also horn cap is brand new so that can be overruled.

I bet you it's your horn relay.

They're an old electro-mechanical relay that can go 'off' because of dirty contact points in the relay itself.

When you press your horn and your surroundings are quiet, you should be able to hear the 'click' from the relay in your engine bay.

To open the relay you just bend back the little fingers, one each end, that holds the relay mechanism captive in the housing. Remove the wiring to the relay and unscrew the mounting screw so the thing ends up in your hand. Much easier if in your hand to work with.

Don't get too aggressive with the 'fingers' as they can break off easily!

Once exposed, plug the harness back in and press the horn again. You may see some sparks at the relay. Clean those contact points with an emery board of some fine wet and dry paper. Then try the horn again.

If it works

Before you start disassembling relays, or other items:

Look at the BACK of the Steering Wheel Hub, the side closest to the dash and opposite the horn "cap". There is a brass arm that rubs against the contact plate on the back of the steering wheel hub.

When you replaced the Steering Column Shroud/Clamshell you might have inadvertently bent that little arm AWAY from the steering wheel, if so, there is no way that the horn switch is getting power and therefore no horn.

If that doesn't do it, check for the Green/Black wire that connects to the Steering Wheel Hub.

You might also check the fuse. Yes, there is a fuse for the Horn and the horn only. It might have blown if you replaced the horn button and it sparked.
