Posted October 23, 201014 yr comment_334189 I just finished rebuilding a 5 speed that I recently bought (out of an '82 ZX). I will be putting this into my '73.I noticed that the shifter return to center from the right (5th and R) is fine but the return from the left (1st and 2nd) seems weak, if it springs back at all. Is this typical for this tranny? I did try shimming the return spring to add tension but it really didn't help. I hope this description makes sense. Any input is greatly appreciated. October 25, 201014 yr comment_334323 I had two of those transmissions, one in my Z and one in my 810. Actually one was from an 83 ZX and one was from an 84 RWD Maxima, but they both returned to center properly from any position. October 26, 201014 yr comment_334398 Sounds like one of the shift fork detent balls is stuck, or has a missing/broken tension spring. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/37471-obscure-shiftertranny-question/#findComment-334398 Share on other sites
