stock seat broken, is a repair possible?

Hi, the driver's seat in my 1973 240z is broken. The back is still attached to the seat bottom, but it does not stay upright, so in other words its not locking in place. I don't want to buy a new seat as I don't have the cash, so what could be the problem, and is it easily fixable? I was thinking it could be the hinges attaching the back, but all i can find is hinges for a 280zx seat. Any help is appreciated!

I bet you could easily find a used seat. Many people replace the original seats and they are very willing to unload their OEM seat(s). Check over at hybridz.com where that mod is very popular.

Im on a super tight budget so I think im gonna have to stick with the seat i have. I took a closer inspection today and it turns out that the bottom part of the seat frame is snapped on one side. Would jb weld work to fix it? thanks for the help and advice!

Yoshi...

Take the broken part to a local welding shop. They will be able to fix it up for just a few bucks.... and it will stay fixed. JB Weld isn't designed for structural use, so don't use it for that purpose.

I'd think you could get it rewelded for about $20 - $40 here in Houston. Can't speak for the "city by the bay."

I paid $5 at the local muffler shop to have mine welded. They are used to welding thin metal and can knock it out while you watch. Just remove the seat back and all the upholstery and padding before you take it to be welded.

Oh ok, that sounds good! Would I have to remove the black paint from the seat frame first before bringing it in for welding? thanks!

I did not remove the paint, they were able to weld it as is. I shot a bit of paint on if before putting it back together.
