Hi, I'm from the central area of the state and have recently acquired a few more Z's. My first car I bought myself was an old run down '79 280zx that a friend had gotten from his cousin who'd had it since new. Both him and his cousin must've been bored alot, because they were never NOT doing some sort of maintenance(tinkering). It had the harder suspension like the 280z and the head had been removed at 50k miles, the intake runners and the valve pockets were ported & polished and the head was planed to increase comp to 9.1(or 9.3, cant remember). They replaced the clutch every 100k miles on the dot, and including the factory-installed clutch, it had the 6th clutch in it with original transmission and original engine(neither had been rebuilt, except the head work at the 50k mark). The car's speedo/odo still worked fine and showed 585,650 miles when I got it. The car was pretty much a shell with no interior except the buckets, dash, door panels and rear deck/trunk carpet. It wasn't a 2+2, which means people didn't bum rides(they didn't like crawling thru the rear hatch it seems). It eventually met it's demise when I loaned it to a friend to use as a backup car for work and the fuel pressure hose that comes off the regulator valve started leaking and dripped onto the exhaust manifold. I waited years trying to find another one but it seemed the prices had skyrocketed and the only ones for sale under $5k were automatics. Considering I only paid $300 for my '79(and everyone told me I overpaid), it seems like prices had really hit the solar system. So I'd finally just given up ever getting one that wouldn't take 10's of thousands to get "right" again....then my nephews friend said he needed advice on what to do with this 260z rallye car his grandfather had built back in the early 80's. I went to take a look and it's a freaking parts house for 240/260/280z's!!! There are NOS/OEM parts still boxed up on the shelves, it's a treasure trove....oh and don't let me forget to take pics of the "oil trailer"........it's got over $25k worth of high end oil still in their "tins" and I've never seen so many Nissan, Nismo, and Wix brand filters all in one place in my life. There's also something very interesting, there are 2 close ratio racing transmissions for the Z and 2 'crate' motors as I'm told(one is a 2.6L and the other is a 2.4L). I'm still in the process of moving stuff around because whoever was last in there parked 3 1938 Ford basketcases in there to restore, one of which is the car that Charles Chapman(notorious most wanted gangster) was killed in. I'd love to get them, but they want too much for my blood. They wanted $3500 for the 3 datsuns with all the extra parts(not including oil/filter trailer) and $8k if they include the trailer. I'm letting them work out the title issue, it never got transferred after his granddaddy died. Did I get a good deal or am I being taken to the cleaners.....again(have a history of this happening).

Based on what you said, Mikey, you've got one HELLUVA deal. 3 Datsuns, spares out the gazoo for 3.5 large is a good deal. Get the trailer, too, if you got the cash.

Well I bought the cars(including all the extra components) but they told me today that the trailer had been listed on ebay and already had alot of hits, but the grandma told me to take whatever would fit the cars(filter-wise) out of the trailer. So I took everything I could get my hands on. Also, I got a few sets of louvers....but, I don't see how they attach. If anyone needs any body parts, just pm me and I'll check to see if they're any good. Mississippi weather really can do a number on metals.

Welcome fellow Z car owner! there are alot of good folks on this site with a wealth of information that will help you. I live on the coast of Mississippi and just have completed a 3 year ground up restoration on a 78. These cars are a lot of fun to drive and I have enjoyed the restoration process, now looking towards another project. I wish you well with your car(s). I have been thinking we need a Z car club in the state of MS, if you are ever on the coast

Central MS pretty much means the 3 towns I spend my time in....Starkville, Meridian, and Vicksburg.

Yeah, MS really needs some sort of specialty club....I think all we have is the MS-NATS, or something along those lines. Vicksburg and Jackson have a few local hotrod/street rod clubs, but a Z-club is definitely a necessity.

Well, haven't been able to do much except buy parts. My back has been giving me fits and it almost looks like this car will never get finished unfortunately. The people that were supposed to do the metal work(new floors, front half of trunk floor, front wheel tub under battery rotted out) have just up and disappeared with my down payment, so I spent more money going and getting the car back from their shop. I also have wayyy too many projects, if anyone wants to point me towards someone who can do good work without charging me an arm and a leg, I'd appreciate it....or if you'd rather take this project off my hands, I'll list it on classifieds here.
