kelly Posted November 13, 2010 Share #1 Posted November 13, 2010 Can anyone tell me what oil is put in the strut tubes before you put the new struts on Thanks Joe
Arne Posted November 13, 2010 Share #2 Posted November 13, 2010 Pretty much anything. I use whatever weight motor oil I have handy. All it is there for is to improve heat transfer and reduce the possibility of rust inside the tube. So it doesn't matter much what you use. vintagezracer Posted November 14, 2010 Share #5 Posted November 14, 2010 We have found rubbing a light coating of heavy grease or Anti-seize on the strut insert prevents rust and seizing of the insert to the inside of the strut tube. Occasionally, moisture can seep down into the strut tube. With using oil the water and oil stay separated and the moisture tends to collect and alllow rust to occur. With antifreeze, there are the rust inhibiters built in but don't seem to last very long.Just my 2 cents from experience...Tom
