All the louvers on my car are ABS plastic.

The hatch one mounts to small "steps" of aluminum that slide under the lip of the rubber seal for the window. The other end of the step is mounted to a piece of velcro tape that is glued to the glass.

Minimum weight added to the hatch, I'm still using the original lift support.

The quarter glass ones have their own small tabs that slide under the rubber glass support.

I have a set of the 1970's "dealer option" aluminum louvers with the curved ends, as well as the lighter, MSA aluminum inside-the-window mounted louvers.

I'm in the camp that likes the function and look of louvers on cars with no rear spoiler. I prefer the look of the curved=end, screw-on spoilers and have no qualms drilling into the hatch. However, to my eye, they visually seem to "clash" with my rear BRE style spoiler.

I'm still stuggling to decide if I'm going to install either of them...

mgood, sorry for the hijack, but were your mirrors made by Nissan, or were they an aftermarket option? I bought a pair of the exact same mirrors (except in flat black) off of Ebay to replace the junky Advance/AutoZone/Jegs mirrors that came on the car.

Any idea where I can find the plastic mounting gasket?

I'm with you Julio. I think the large louvers look best, but I'm not sure if they would look right with your BRE spoiler. I also plan to install a BRE, so I'll probably sell both of my louvers some day.

FastWoman, as far as I know the mirrors were an after market item not made by Nissan and installed by the dealer. They seem to be the same as the ones that were put on the Black Pearl. I have had mine on the car for 35 years, from the beginning. You might have to purchase a used set to get the black rubber pieces.

Bonzi, a follow up on the louvers in Pennsylvania, from what I was told by the dealer back in the day, if you had louvers on your car it had to have a passenger side mirror for safety inspection.

I'm with you on the looks of the curved end type being more attractive, but I won't drill the hatch - not here in Oregon where rain water could wick into the holes...

Arne,

I fully understand and agree with your rationale. When I do have to drill holes, I make sure the edges are sealed as best I can, but it's very difficult to effectively seal a drilled hole edge in sheetmetal.

As you've seen in my other posts, my Z is allergic to rain. Only because I plan to keep mine out of the rain am I not adverse to drilling additional holes. Means I can't drive it approximately 3+ months a year here in the SF Bay Area, but that's OK with me.
