were your mirrors made by Nissan, or were they an aftermarket option? I bought a pair of the exact same mirrors (except in flat black) off of Ebay to replace the junky Advance/AutoZone/Jegs mirrors that came on the car.

Any idea where I can find the plastic mounting gasket?

Some can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the aftermarket, cast aluminum "racing" mirrors installed by Datsun dealers were also used on the Mustang.

Attached is a pic of my car that has said mirrors.

FastWoman, as far as I know the mirrors were an after market item not made by Nissan and installed by the dealer. They seem to be the same as the ones that were put on the Black Pearl.

I do not recall who the OEM was for Nissan - but the Racing Mirrors were Nissan Parts. They were $19.95 a pair when ordered over the Parts Counter. They were included in the Nissan Shade Kit. The rear shade was not sold by itself - only as a Kit including the Racing Mirrors. The Black Pearl's included the Shade Kit as part of the appearance package.

While the Nissan Racing Mirrors looked a lot like the Mustang Mirrors - side by side they are shaped quite differently.

FWIW,

I don't have louvers on mine, they are one of the few classic '70s accessories I don't have. No way I'd drill the hatch for the body-mounted style today, but if I ever stumble across a good deal on a decent set of glass-mounted, I could be seriously tempted.

FastWoman (Sarah?), I agree with Arne's sagacity re. drilling. If you ever

wanted to change your mind, I promise you that you wouldn't want to braze

the holes shut with the glass in place, and you wouldn't want to go through

the hassle (and expense) of obtaining and installing a new gasket if you

removed the glass before brazing. Neither you nor Arne would be sorry with

the type of louver that goes under the rubber gasket. Our '70 has had that

type forever, and we agree with the benefits which several friends have

listed above. To which we would add, it makes life a lot easier on the air

conditioner, due to much less cycling on and off.

Like the title says; I'm looking for pictures of S30's with louvers on rear hatch glass.

Trying to decide if i should use them on my car.

thanx for any picture you might post.

I have a couple of Aluminum louvers similar to what mlaw7 has on his. These louvers are needing some TLC but are workable if one is interested.

Kathy and Rick, I think you got the postings confused. I already have the louvers -- the sort that tucks under the weather seal. I'd never drill my hatch, though, at least for anything that shakes around in the wind! My first car was a '75 Celica with a cute little luggage rack on the trunk lid. That was always a leakage problem. Fortunately I lived in a very dry climate.

But yes, I like having the louvers. I didn't think I would, and I considered taking them off when I bought the car, but they do work very well. I did take off the little plastic quarter window louvers, though. They looked cheap, obscured my view, and didn't do anything to help with the sun or glare. I thought they also broke up some of the more attractive lines of the car.

Stephen,

Thanks for the compliment.

Our cars are almost clones! Looks like you have the same Panasport rims as mine.

I just painted them with Duplicolor urethane, metallic charcoal from a spray can, then gave them a coat of matte clear. Trick is to clean them well and wipe down with acetone before painting. It was really quite easy.

So far they are holding-up well with only one chip, and that's where I dropped a wrnch on one... (don't ask).
