I like Yuta's car better with the burn marks :)

Out of all those cars, I think I like this one best. Love the color!!

Sweet, that's Kenny's car, he works for Fatlace. My friend's shop fixed the wiring on the 4AG swap and did the suspension/alignment for him. I like the TE Corolla's a lot, most of the 86 parts will bolt right on.

This is my friend's race car, the only car there with carbs. They took off the slicks in the back to see if it would slide. The verdict, it does better running grip but was still a lot of fun.

I won't go into another long rant about these kids wanting to be different just like everyone else or explaining how "aggressive stretched tires" are really aggressively slowing the car down, it's getting boring. I will say that I drove my Z at Buttonwillow with the ride height very low (but not that low) and it exhibited bumpsteer that would actually cause the car to do an emergency lane change type of maneuver over one particular rise in the track. The bumpsteer issue gets worse the lower the car goes, and at a level significantly higher than these stupid cars are at, my car was downright dangerous. There seems to be no regard for functionality with this group.

Jon,

I honestly don't think it has anything to do with being different. The younger crowd likes cars that are low. I don't see anything wrong with that (although I despise the stretched tire look!!!!). Sure it may not be that functional but that's how we learn. I am 31 and did some really stupid things when I was younger. I will probably still do many stupid things in the future. I bet many here did the same :) I know my dad spent some of his wedding money on Koni's which beat him to death back in the 70's. The things we do to make out cars look good..... Look at the folks who cut their springs.

I would argue that lowering a car almost always makes it look better if nothing else. Too low maybe not so much but it's all in the eye of the beholder. I dropped my 510 as low as the coilovers would allow and drove it like that for 2 years with no ill effects (w.out bumpsteer spacers) I loved it. I also didn't race so I wasn't concerned with the perfect performance setup. My BMW is lowered 2 inches also and I love it. It's been that way for 5 years now. I may even get coilovers eventually and go lower.

My dad's lime Z is pretty low as well and it's also the one that gets most of the best comments. Most of these guys with the slammed Z's don't track them nor drive them hard. If they do it's mostly for drifting which is the autosport for the younger generation and has a huge following while generating a ton of income for various drift related companies. Your parents generation probably shook their fingers at you when you were young too :)

Lucky for us we only have to look at them (even if many look on in disgust ;))

We're pretty much the same age, I'm 35. Cutting springs is only a bad idea if you cut them with a torch or you cut them too much. Sounds like your 510 is set up pretty badly. If you're interested in making it better, you can take a look at this thread. Although it is about 280ZX suspension, they're pretty close and a lot of the ideas like raising the pivots translate just fine onto the 510. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/85166-s130-suspension-tech/

I'm not saying that I never did anything stupid with my cars or paid the price for my mistakes, I'm saying that this trend is stupid in many ways. It's compound stupid. But I'll leave it at that...

I drove my car around Buttonwillow on black Friday this year and it was great fun. I really love that track. I didn't have problems with bump steer but maybe I wasn't driving fast enough. I don't drift my Z, I can't afford to mess it up. My car is pretty low, but not low like some of these guys. I kept it high enough to still have some bump travel and I do have bump steer spacers. By the way Jon, I love the coilovers, thanks again for the help

I personally like the low look, it's not really about being different. It's just one of the current styles. Styles come and go
