grantf Posted November 30, 2010 Share #1 Posted November 30, 2010 (edited) so the time to shoot color on my car is drawing near. Problem is where to get the paint from. The local Wesco shop can get me paint but they seem to only want to sell me the most expensive brand ($400 or more just for the base coat, no reducer, hardener, just the base). They say they can order cheaper paint but they seem really tough to work with. So option 2: I have a coworker that says he has a connection that can get him paint at cost no other info than that. Option 3: there is an online seller called carpaintonline.com but info on brands is really spotty but there prices look reasonable, but I am suspect of this site as I can find no good or bad reviews of the company. I am looking for 1978 Datsun 280z yellow. any advice? Edited November 30, 2010 by grantf
cozye Posted November 30, 2010 Share #2 Posted November 30, 2010 find a PPG dealer in your area. PPG Shop line is reasonable priced, covers well, and is great for the money. A couple quarts of that won't cost you near $400. You should be able to get your base, clear, reducer, hardener, everything for that kind of money. gryt57 Posted November 30, 2010 Share #3 Posted November 30, 2010 grantf, check automotivetouchup, I just ordered paint from them to paint my engine bay in my 78 280z. It took them only 2 days to mix up my color, and is being shipped to me right now, I am going to spray paint the engine bay. It was 69.00 dollars for 3 12oz cans. they also sell paint for spray guns. If you want, when I get it and start the painting I will let you know how well it matches my original paint.
grantf Posted November 30, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted November 30, 2010 (edited) Coyze, Wesco here in Seattle carries PPG, I bought my ppg epoxy primer from them, (close to $100 per quart!!). The problem is when I ask about buget brands or lines they sort of clam up. Edited November 30, 2010 by grantf
grantf Posted November 30, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted November 30, 2010 gryt57, Interesting site but there there is little info on the make and composition of there paint, I really don't know what I am getting. Is it acrylic, urethane, lacquer?
gryt57 Posted November 30, 2010 Share #6 Posted November 30, 2010 grantf, It looks like a urethane paint, Email them with any questions you have, I did, they responded within a couple of hours.
