Rota RB-R 16x8 +10 with 225/50/16 tires

I just got my new rims and tires. Hyper Black Rota RB-R 16x8 +10 with Hancook H105 225/50/16 96V XL tires($110 each buy 4 get one free). I have a 73 240z. I went back and forth between the 16x7 and the 16x8 since for every one person that said the 8's would fit there was someone else that said they don't fit. I called 18 racing and they told me the 16x8 +10 would work.

The rears fit with no spacers and I probably don't need to roll fenders at all but I probably will before I paint the car. The gap is around 3/16 to 1/4 inch from the tire to the perch.

The fronts I read needed a 5mm spacer but I had some 3mm spacers from when I purchased the car so all I did was sand down the spring perch until I hit the spring on the front face of the perch and they fit. There is plenty of room from the fenders. The gap is around 1/8 inch from the tire to the perch. If I could have purchased the 5mm spacers at the tire shop I would have but I improvised.

I also just got an alignment done. I was a little scared because I have complete disasembled the car and cut out the frame rails and welded in new 2x2 inch square tubing for the frame rails because the old ones were bent, cracked and there was a lot of rust, then I welded the tension rod mounts back in. I also have the bushing camber adjustments.

The caster(tension rod length) was close enough that they did not do anything and the camber was spot on from just me eye balling it. The only thing they changed was the toe which was also very close from me just eye balling it.

Now I need a paint job.

Very cool. I've been contemplating those wheels in 16x8 for the rear and 16x7 for the front. Like you, I keep hearing different results on whether the 8's will clear or not. Do you have any pics from the rear of the car?

lucasbp, Looking good! Keep up the good work, the car will look excellent with paint :)

tlorber, I have 225/16/50 Falken Azenis RT-615 on my car with a factory valance. I can confirm that THESE tires do not work, and I doubt any other 225 tire would clear the valance. However, when I had the MSA type-1 spoiler, I just had to shave a bit off. I am switching to 215/16/45, which should clear. Also you may be able to go with the +4 offset wheels, I know 70Camguy on these forums had some luck with those. But he is running coils.

I read somewhere that the 73 suspension is different from the earlier 240z. Does anybody know what they changed?

I forgot to mention before I have the Eibach 1 inch lowering springs.

The darker spring perch picture above is from the rear.

Here are some more pictures. If you want a different angle let me know and I can take some more.

I have Rota Rb-R 16x8 +10 with 225/50/16 Falken ZIEX ZE-502 tires on my z. I massaged the rear spring perch in a couple mm just to give a little more clearance in the rear. In the front I put in longer wheel studs and a 5mm spacer. I am running the factory front valance with a MSA fiberglass spook. It rubbed initially, but I took the corner pieces off and rolled the lip in ever so slightly and now have a couple mm of clearance.

Hi Guys,

I have the RB-R's in 16x8 et4 (+4) and they fit perfectly. I mounted them before my coilover conversion and there was plenty of space. I am running 205/50/16 General Exclaim UHP's and they grip nicely. I went with the +4 because I wanted to fill out the wheel well as much as I could. I like my wheels to look a little more aggressive but this is still a functional flush look. I only rub a little in the back as low as the car sits now, it never cuts into the letters or anything. I didn't use any spacers. When you think about it, adding the 5 or 6 mm spacer basically makes the end result a +4 offset. No fender rolling here either.

I really drive it, it's fine on the street and a bunch of fun on the track. When I install a stereo, I'll probably drive it even more LOL

well I figured I put out there my numbers since I have had members ask. I am running 245/45/17's on the above wheels. I have 1" lowering springs all the way around with kyb shocks.

I had to trim back the front spoiler a little and the spring perch has to be flattened on the wheel side. You can gain atleast a 1/4" by just flattening the perch right up against the spring(atleast in my case) No rubbing issues on the front so far.

The rear rubs, but just barely catches the sidewall of the tire. The tire rubs up inside the wheel well above the fender lip-just in the curve of the rear quarter. I believe 235's would have cleared-but I got greedy. I really wanted ZG flares, so here's my excuse:classic:

70 cam guy, your car looks just amazing. I lean more toward original usually, but yours is just beautiful, like a light weight prized fighter in appearance. Well done sir!!!

Thank you Stephen! I know the styling is not for everyone but I love the old school look with some modern touches. My friends all drift so their tastes have rubbed off on me a little. I like the low, and somewhat menacing look but it needs to be functional. Pretty soon the 'go' will match the handling and look :D

I still think your car looks great. The silver accompanied with the now original signal indicators, BRE style spook, and Panasports just works. So so clean

I also have a huge amount of respect for the stock guys because I can't leave anything alone ROFL
