Chris Chris, I also like the doo-doo brown paint so I don't hijack this thread too much, here's the link to my old build thread that was recently bumped to the top again in the suspension forum http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39590 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/37841-rota-rb-r-16x8-10-with-2255016-tires/?&page=2#findComment-343448 Share on other sites
January 26, 201114 yr comment_343481 from the information from the OP, it seems that on a 8" width rim, 8 ET+5 (the net result after putting 5mm spacer) and 8 ET+15 (based on the information the rear still has extra 5mm space left before rubbing the strut) is the highest positive offsets you can run before you run into rims rubbing the stock strut. but is this right? the front allows for more aggressive offsets than the rear? this may be the case cause my M45 was like this when i was working on the offsets. from the photos from 70camguy, with a square setup, the front has more "tuck" than his rear (supports the above comment). but this may be attributed to the front having more negative camber due to a greater drop. 70camguy, do you have pictures before you put on coilovers? January 26, 201114 yr comment_343482 I read somewhere that the 73 suspension is different from the earlier 240z. Does anybody know what they changed? I forgot to mention before I have the Eibach 1 inch lowering springs. The darker spring perch picture above is from the rear. Here are some more pictures. If you want a different angle let me know and I can take some more.OP, did your tires rub the fender when you drive? over dips and speed bumps? Right now this is natural camber from the drop. I believe the rear is -2.2 and front is less... maybe -1.5 to -1.7? I can't find my printout and can't remember the camber now. My toe is set to zero. The picture of my car in front of the grafiti at my friend's shop was before the suspension. That was stock springs Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/37841-rota-rb-r-16x8-10-with-2255016-tires/?&page=2#findComment-343557 Share on other sites
January 27, 201114 yr comment_343558 You need to be careful of the front valence. If I recall, that is where people have trouble with the wider wheels. It rubs when the steering wheel is turned Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/37841-rota-rb-r-16x8-10-with-2255016-tires/?&page=2#findComment-343558 Share on other sites
January 27, 201114 yr comment_343562 I have the same setup as the OP and like I mentioned earlier in the thread, I had rubbing on the front valance. I have also experienced slight rubbing in the rear since I last posted in this thread. I think 70 Cam Guy's setup is a good one. The +4 offset provides more spring perch clearance and the 205 tires are 20mm narrower than 225s so you will gain additional space from a narrower tire. You would definitely have rubbing issues with +4 offset running 225s. If I had 205s with my +10 offset rims it would likely clear the stock spring perch and the front valance, but I'm sure it's still really tight. I have recently installed coil overs so I no longer need the 5mm spacer to clear the spring perch and have gained a little more space at the front valance. I am about to pull the trigger on those rims, but I noticed your tire selection. They seem to fit nice on that rim in the pictures, but I think a 205/50/16 is reccomended for a max of 7.5" rim on tirerack etc. I am guessing that is nothing to be concerned about because a lot of newer cars are stretching the boundaries of rims (corvette etc). Anyway, any issues mounting those on your 8" rotas? Love this site. Looking forward to contributing over the years to come.
