Carl Beck Posted December 3, 2010 Author Share #13 Posted December 3, 2010 I'm surprised no one has commented on the "factory" restored program Z they showed. I see it (HLS30-15189) is listed in Carl's program car registry, but it is listed as 918 orange and it definitely looks to be 920 gold instead. The owner didn't look too thrilled to hear Mr. Matsuo had "improved it" with a piece of tape. I can't blame him for that. -Mike Hi Mike: I think you actually missed the joke. While they were talking about the "improvement" - - the viewing audience was shown the actual "improvement" - Mr. Matsuo's signature on the underside of the access panel. The tape on the underside was just a Joke... that the owner was let in on after the shooting.. 918 Orange!!! ....Da...I'll have to fix that. 26th-Z Posted December 3, 2010 Share #14 Posted December 3, 2010 Couple of comments from the conversation; This web site is pretty much the "history channel" for the history of the Datsun 240Z Sport S30 Series.Years ago, we had conversations about the relevancy and context of historical writings by Matsuo, Katayama, and others connected with the design program. The point was made that individual comments that we were interpreted as historical fact were likely slanted by the perspective of the author. This video is a perfect illustration. Mike B Posted December 3, 2010 Share #15 Posted December 3, 2010 Hi Mike:I think you actually missed the joke. While they were talking about the "improvement" - - the viewing audience was shown the actual "improvement" - Mr. Matsuo's signature on the underside of the access panel. The tape on the underside was just a Joke... that the owner was let in on after the shooting..LOLl Thanks for the clarification Carl. I saw the cut-away to the signed access panel, but didn't get the connection that it was a joke about the tape. As you know, some Z's have a black paint treatment on the lower body like that (such as "lucky #13"). I wondered if that was the look Mr. Matsuo was trying to achieve . -Mike
SteveJ Posted December 3, 2010 Share #16 Posted December 3, 2010 Thanks for calling our attention to the video, Carl. I finally had a chance to watch it tonight. It was quite the contrast from the episode of Automobiles on The History Channel 12 or 13 years ago.
code3z Posted December 22, 2010 Share #17 Posted December 22, 2010 Dont forget, there is a second video on motomantv. Its called, "What do Z's and sharks have in common?". Check that one out too. If you have TiVo, you can get both on "Video on Demand".
Inf Posted December 22, 2010 Share #18 Posted December 22, 2010 I too cringed as soon as I saw the "F" word emblazoned across the screen. Also, it was a shame they sold the 2000GT down the river while trying to fix the Z Goertz myth.
