January 11, 201114 yr comment_341598 there is there a cheaper alternative? cant understand why two vinyl sheets should cost $245. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/37873-re-skinned-door-panels/?&page=2#findComment-341598 Share on other sites
January 13, 201114 yr comment_341844 I think $245 is a fair price. I still have the panels for a 76 to 78 Z, brand new still in the factory Nissan bags. Taking offers of course....ready to move them. January 13, 201114 yr Author comment_341847 Like a lot of restoration parts for the early Z's, the new door panel skins are on the pricey side. But, they are a cheaper option than replacement door panels. And in the scheme of things, the price really isn't too bad.I did buy a pair of replacement door panels from MSA about 7 years ago, the price then was about $155 each...wish I'd bought more, but I didn't know I would have more Z projects back then! Panels look great!FYI- I have several sets of panels including a set of fiberglass ones. not sure what years they are from though. Let me know if you need any more and we can take a look at the ones I have.I am just going to take the panels from my doors to the shop and have them re-upholstered.Tim Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/37873-re-skinned-door-panels/?&page=2#findComment-341933 Share on other sites
January 19, 201114 yr comment_342691 I recently purchased some new door panel skins from DatsunParts.com (http://www.datsunparts.com/2334). I had a local interior shop repair the old door panels and install the new skins. They turned out real nice!Question - Does anyone know how reattach the 'window fuzzies'? Nissan used staples in the stainless channel originally. My new 'fuzzies' do not have the staples or other obvious way to install.I have looked at this post: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38530&highlight=Door+Panel+FuzziesI just would like to know what else other people have tried in this situation... January 20, 201114 yr Author comment_342731 The upholsterer used rivets to attach new fuzzy strips to the re-skinned door panels. Here's a shot of the drivers side panel on the door, plus several of the rivets. Not sure if they were counter sunk or not, but they are definitely somewhat recessed and do not make contact with the glass. They are not that noticeable unless you get up real close for a look. January 21, 201114 yr comment_342914 Thanks for the pictures! I am still very concerned that I might scratch my glass. I am looking for different types of rivets that might have a lower profile.I am also considering just gluing them in place with some heavy duty adhesive (e.g. Contact Cement, JB Weld).
