Posted December 8, 201014 yr comment_338202 My L24 is going to be coming out for a rebuild soon, and will be dyno'ed when done if I can find a bellhousing seperate from the transmission. My stock 4 speed is all 1 unit. Did Nissan ever use a seperate bellhousing that will bolt to an L-series engine? December 8, 201014 yr comment_338203 Yup. The Type A transmissions used in the '70-71 240Z had a separate bellhousing. Possibly some of the early 510s and 521s too. December 8, 201014 yr comment_338204 The type B 4 speeds and all 5 speeds (not counting T5's) have a bell housing on the front of the tranny that separates by removing 5 bolts inside the bell housing and a large snap ring over the bearing. Obviously these will bolt up the the L6, but I'm not sure if that is what you are looking for. It can not be removed separately from the rest of the transmission. December 10, 201014 yr Author comment_338378 Great information. Thanks to all who've replied. I guess I'm on the hunt for early Z or 510 parts collectors. Anybody have one they're willing to loan me for this project? I'll gladly return it once the engine is done.Funny thing, I picked up a 521 to use as a driver while I'm going through my drivetrain. I haven't taken posession of it yet, but it supposedly has a 1300cc engine. Is that still an L series?Devin Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/37902-bellhousing/#findComment-338378 Share on other sites
December 10, 201014 yr comment_338385 1300 is not an L, but the 1600 is/was. Is it a 520, or 521? 521 should be a 1600 OHC, 520 was a 1300 pushrod. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/37902-bellhousing/#findComment-338385 Share on other sites
December 10, 201014 yr Author comment_338393 I'm not for sure on the pickup yet, was listed as a 521. It's a 69 model. It'll be home Sunday night, so I'll get some time to look it over good maybe the following weekend. I just hope it's not too low geared for highway cruising. But the idea of a 2.4 and 5 speed out of an S13 is appealing....Devin Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/37902-bellhousing/#findComment-338393 Share on other sites
December 10, 201014 yr comment_338459 A '69 should be a 520 1300. My father-in-law had one. The truck changed to 521 (w/L16) for 1970. Same truck, different engine/transmission.
