SU's got me stumped

Ice. Didn't even think of that. Had a VW years ago that did that, and you could actually see the ice on the long thin tubular manifold.

Also had ice with a Corrolla that was missing a warm air tube on the air cleaner. Fixed it with a length of plastic bottle.:)

As I recall the time it happened to me I was sailing down I-5 coming back from Seattle and it seemed to be low to mid 30s and if it were to have tried a little harder it could have rained or snowed or sleeted. I'm sure the temp or the air dropped some venturying thru the throats of those carbs thus forming the ice. VENTURYING?? is that even a word? Watch next year's dictionary......

Well, it's not ice.:disappoin

The car has run flawlessly for the past 100 miles until I went for a long drive this afternoon. Coming off of the freeway the car stalled as soon as I pushed in the clutch. I was able to get it restarted easily and limped it home (stalling at every light!). At home I pulled off the air cleaner and sure enough the front slide was stuck half way up. I loosened the dome screws and the float dropped. The car now runs normally. The air temperature was in the 70's and humidity < 40%.

The front slide is definitely sticking intermittently. I have adjusted and cleaned it a half a dozen times. Any suggestions?

I don't know the anatomy of an SU very well, but if you're dealing with a rough part, you can always polish it. Hand rubbing with rubbing compound (i.e. for paint) works fine in a pinch.

Great minds think alike. On tear down #3 I used some 2000 grit paper to very lightly eliminate any tiny rough spots that I could feel in both the dome and the slide. They were already very smooth (fresh Z Therapy rebuilds) and now they are perfectly smooth to my hand.

Steve. Would you let us know the outcome

The car continues to run perfectly 95% of the time. It ran flawlessly yesterday but died once today on the way to work. When it dies it restarts very easily so I am still driving the car everywhere.

Z Therapy dropped a new dome and slide in the mail yesterday. Great customer service. I have my fingers crossed that that will solve the problem.
