Hella H4s

Can anyone help me findan outlet perhaps via Interent and the old world side of the Atlantic for some Hellas. None of my search engines can come up with an address ? I have followed your lighting discussions and will uprate the wires and fit more powerful bulbs but first, the lights.

Sean, try www.hella.de. I have Hellas in my Z. The exchange from the american closed bulps was quite difficult while using the original front light housing and the chrome ring. I heared that the VW Golf 1 front lights also suit. Try to get them from a scrapyard. By the way, Motorsports has the Hellas in their catalog. You can ask them via e-mail for technical advise/help.

lighting products we unfortunately have to inform you that we do not have

any longer 7" headlamps in our range. As we do not stock products for

Oldtimers we consequently can not offer corresponding headlamps for your

Datsun 240 Z. The only possibility we see is that you contact your local

dealer or accessory shops and ask for auxiliary lamps which are available

as fog lamps or as driving lamps and which can be mounted onto the bumper

respectively underneath it in addition to your old healdlamps. For example

we can recommend here our Comet FF 200 (round) or Comet FF 300 (oval) which

have achieved an excellent result in various tests which were also

published in the automotive press.

there are plenty of english cars that used 7 inch round lamps surely they would be avail in the u.k.

also Narva do H4 halogen inserts, most of the 240Z'S at a recent

Adelaide classic car rally had the narva's installed. IF you get desperate i can get either brand for you.

UK lights won't do 'cos they drive on the wrong side of the road and the beam angle is all wrong !

I'm gettin' really pissed - I'm getting nowhere and it aint your fault guys.

The reason for choosing Hellas is to improve over the standard lighting but clearly there are now better lights out there although not of the sealed beam type or look.

Are these 'diamond' lights going to look ok on a 1972 car , I don't want to associate myself with the 'tuning' brigade of add-on wannabes ?

And so, does one choose Neon or 'krypton?' gas filled bulbs and at what strength - I hear someone say 90/110 but why ?

There are a lot of companies that make the H4 conversion out there, but the problem is if you want to meet legal requirments.

Companies such as autopal make headlight that meet european requirement as well as DOT. I have the autopal H4 conversion in and they go in fine using the stock components to the headlight assembly.

I argee with using another bulb such as the Narva bulb. I have some laser white lights that I picked up at a local turners shop that are 60/55W and are slightly brighter then the 100/90W sealed beams.

If you do choice a bulb that is higher then the 60/55W you will have to upgrade the wiring to the light to prevent electrical failure. This would require 2 automotive relays and a waterproof fuse w/case as well as heavier guage wire.

keep in mind that the stock lights to the Zed is 7" or 178mm.
