Posted December 19, 201014 yr comment_339256 ok well when I upgraded my alt to one from a 83 zxt and my amp gauge has been acting strange. so I picked up a 76 280 volt gauge and am going to do the swap next week. I wanted to know any info from anyone has done this swap that would make things easier for me. I know I will need to put new connections on the wires I just need to figure what wires need to go to each other and if I will need to run a extra wire out to the battery for voltage sense. thanks in advance Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/37987-amp-gauge-to-volt-gauge-questions/ Share on other sites
December 19, 201014 yr comment_339259 This thread jumps around but has some good info about deleting the amp gauge and 240Z wiring in general, late in the thread.http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/96568-alternator-question/page__pid__910910__st__20#entry910910The wiring diagram for a 78 should help you get the voltmeter in, since it used the internally regulated alternator and a voltmeter. The diagram should show you connections all the way to the alternator. December 19, 201014 yr comment_339266 Jamie, the White/Red wire going to the fusebox is a good source for your positive side. It is attached to the fusebox with a ring lug, so you might be able to get another ring lug on the stud. From the negative side, go to ground. On the shunt across the old ammeter connnections, use shielded terminals, and match the gauge of the wire, so you don't create a "fusible link". Let me know if you need a hand. I might be able to come over.
