the head is E88, so the engine in my 260z is the L24, im i right ?

i also have another engine wich havnt cleaned yet, but it came from another 260z, i hope thats an L26 engine.

the question is

if my 2nd engine is the L26, wich engine is better to keep it in my car?

I am not an expert in this. But these two web pages suggest that the motor in your car might already be an L26. Apparently the E88 head was used for the 260Z also.

Here's one more, with block data - http://datsunzgarage.com/engine/index.htm

Don't trust what you read on the web. What is the engine serial number as stamped on the block below the plugs for #5? It will either start with L24 or L26. Don't trust the casting number.

mike260z, it says on the page that you linked, that the P30 was used for both the 240Z and 260Z.

Arne's suggestion gets right to the best way to find out. It is stamped on the block. Right above the starter, a flat spot. You might have to scrape some grime off to read it.

Good work. An L24. Is that the engine in the car or the extra? That's one, what does the other engine show?

Back to your original question - it depends. I would use the one that is in the best condition, if i was trying to save some money. Or the L26 if I was looking for more power. What are you trying to do?

Good luck with the project.

thats the engine pulled out of my car, a friend of mine has the other engine in his house trying to put it on his 240z... i just paid the machine shop on this L24, and the other engine its not even disambled.

i have new piston rings, engine gasket set, water pump, gas pump, oil pump, rod bearings, main bearings, but i ordered this things for an L26, are these compatible with my L24 ? and how much is the power difference between both engines?

thanks!

First check and see if the other engine is a L26, if so i would use it as it is what the car came with, even if the number doesen't match.

The big difference in between L24 and L26 is crank and rods, so you should be fine with what you have ordered, did you have the machine shop to check the bearing size before ordering?

Chris

hi ChrisZ

the guy from the machine shop told me to order the bearings in .010

ive made a mistake, i just have rod bearings from an L18 engine, wich are the same, im only missing the main bearings
