MY 72 Stocker has a bug.....when i warm it up i have notice the idle goes up 200-300 rpms when clutch is depressed? When i let it out in goes back down 200-300. What is going on? how do i fix this? thx

When the clutch is depressed the engine disengages from the transmission and no longer spins the gears in the trans. On a cold morning that could account for what you are experiencing. Does it do it after you've warmed up the engine and driven the car? If you had a dragging TO bearing the opposite would be true. The drag would occur when the clutch was depressed.

No noise, had amy 4speed rebuilt and New clutch in 3000 miles ago, would just go back to the shop but it is 50 la miles away(traffic central) AND I have come to the conclusion that I need to learn and do all my own repairs. I have owned 240's my whole driving life 44yr and so often have been disappointed in the work after shelling out my hard earned dough. This board has been like a manuel for me....and excited me to learn. Thank you

Doradox- way less after it warms up....maybe50- 100 rpm......After a trans rebuild and new clutch do you usally needs to adjust anything after driving a while? I have done nothing since rebuild. thx

Check the pedal free play is about the only thing needed. It might not hurt to check the fluid level just to be sure even though the trans has been rebuilt recently. Too much fluid, or the wrong weight, might make your problem worse than it would normally be.

Once the trans fluid is warmed and thinned out the rpm change would be less as it would be easier for the motor to spin the gears and that seems to jive with what you experiencing.

My first guess, by only reading the first post, would be cold and thick lube in the tranny.

I used to experience the identical issue with my 5-speed and the 4-speed in the Green 72'. I went with a thinner weight gear oil (was 90, went with a 75? I think) and that helped a lot.

Even more after it warmed up. Seemed to be more of a winter issue than anything else.

Dave - loved your grn z chronicle..and all the upgrades.

Funny enough, there's a Beautiful Green Z on the front page. I showed my wife and in Uniscene, we both said "I kinda miss the green Z"

Guess ya had to be there, it was good for a chuckle or 2 but I had a blast working on it and preparing it for a new owner. I'm not the kinda guy who turns and burns a Z car for profit but didn't have a big choice at the time. Got it for free, into it for about $1800 and sold it for $3800.

Glad you enjoyed the process.

Let us know how the gear oil change goes for ya.

By the way. Does the car sit outside on in a non heated garage?
