Posted December 30, 201014 yr comment_340236 hello folks, i have just acquired a 240-260 rolling shell with some extra body panels.there is no i.d on the car and i wondered how you tell the difference from a 240 to a 260. the engine is a 2.4 with twin carbs but this doesnt necessarily mean its the one out of car.where are chassis numbers and do these have model i.d in them. December 30, 201014 yr comment_340242 Check the indented stamp near the brake booster and above the booster vacuum clamp connection on the firewall. There should be a VIN number stamped there, as well a plate on the driver corner of the dash. These will be the only two places assuming both your engine compartment and inner door plates are missing. If they begin with HLS, it is a 240Z. Although the attached picture is not from a 240Z, it is the firewall stamp on my Fairlady 240Z-L (begins with HS30). December 30, 201014 yr comment_340251 Here's a little piece of info I got from Steve. On the tail light facia piece the 240 has the rectangular hole for the tail light where the 260 has an extra notch added to the hole on the license plate side of the hole for the backup light. Obscure enough piece of info for everyone? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38076-new-owner/#findComment-340251 Share on other sites
January 1, 201114 yr comment_340449 I would thik it's a 240 shell if it has a L24 motor. Unlikely that anyone would have replaced a 2.6 motor with a 2.4. Though not impossible.
