Posted January 6, 201114 yr comment_341004 would it be a good idea to swap out my original metal fan out with a newer plastic one since it is lighter and prob easier on the motor? this is in a series 1 240. also would I need a new fan clutch also or would the old one work fine? thanks in advance Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38153-metal-or-plastic-fan/ Share on other sites
January 6, 201114 yr comment_341007 The weight of the metal fan was said to be hard on the water pumps, which is apparently why Nissan changed to plastic for 1972. If you are going to drive the car, a plastic fan is a good idea. The fan clutch for the metal fan will not fit a plastic fan, you need to get a fan from a '72-78, the clutch can be from the same or also from a 280ZX. The fans on the ZX's are a bit different.FWIW, I have a fan from a 260Z with a 280ZX clutch on mine. The metal fan and clutch are safely stored.
