That's funny. I had emailed this guy a few years ago after seeing his car listed on Carl's Zhome registry, since he was located so close to me. I never got a reply. I don't think I am up for another project Z though and I already have my low VIN blue car.

Not sure that I buy the "mule" story in the ad:

"The car, HLS30-00022, was originall not intended for sale to the general public but rather like the rest of the original 25 cars were intended to be training and sales tools or what is known as "Production mules". that was the fate of this car. It was a mule for the Datsun dealer in Portland Or."

The seller mentions Rick Morgan's car in his ad. (HLS30-00013) As well as Jim Fredrick's. (HLS30-00016)

Of course the mule story is lore but if it were true, that would make Her Majesty the 26th more famous as the very first car intended to be sold to the public. Poor Jim and Rick with their "mules".

Bid closed at $10,000 but reserve not met. What would you give for the car? It is only worth what someone will pay for it... All finished and super clean what is it worth. I figure you would have close to $20k in it to make it pristine if you gave $10k for it. That's kind of a WAG, but I figure: paint, metal work, rust repair, new interior pieces, seat covers, carpet, electrical upgrades, rebuild engine, tranny, new or refurbished lens, badges, bumpers. Thats doing all but the paint yourself. Some of that is fairly cheap but a serious restoration can nickel and dime you to death.

Thoughts?

Not even close I don't think. I have over 10K into paint and interior alone already. 3500 into engine and trans, another grand into shocks and bushings, and I am doing the work myself. Still have all of the detail stuff to do. 20 grand on top of purchase to make it a #1 car I'd think. As with most of us, it is the love of the car, not an investment. I don't think that car would be worth 30+ as a restored car, but maybe......

That car was going to need some serious work ,right in the description it said needs frame and floors and no pictures to show how severe the damage was, the battery area was a mess also and shown in the pictures . a With numerous paint jobs who knows what was "lurking " Original motor was included but Seized That could get costly if the block is cracked or it could be Junk all together no way to tell until its apart and magnafluxed i would say easily $20,000 more like $25000 to do a full on rotisserie restoration if not more remember that bumpers alone by the time you buy all the guards and brackets and rubber strips will cost $1500 and media blasting inside and out costs any where from $1500-$2000 .I also never trust an ebay auction with a seller who opened his account the day of the start of the auction .Does any one actually know who the last two bidders were who ran it up to $10,000 Mike B ?????

I can't believe his reserve was set higher than $10k. If I were the seller I would have removed the reserve the minute it hit $10K. That is a good amount of money considering how much work will be needed. But seriously what a crappy job on advertising the car. The description was fine but needed to add more pictures.
