Posted January 10, 201114 yr comment_341463 A week ago, I came across 6 feet of old braided Jaguar vacuum hose that happened to match the size and look of 240Z vacuum brake booster hose so I tried something today. I cut to length and then stuffed a aluminum wire through them and stuffed the two into my oven at 400 degrees. The object was to see if they well retain the shape of the wire. After about 40 minutes, I quickly doused them in cold water. And guess what! it worked! The pick shows them in the oven before I closed the door. I made the wire so that there was no part of the hose touching the frying pan or the oven walls. In my excitement, I forgot to take a pic of the hose but well tomorrow night. SO if you can find braided hose that can work, there is a chance you can modify it to what shape you want. I cant say this well work for water lines because of the pressure but you might want to give this a try for other things. JUST MAKE SURE YOU DONT BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN! Watch it! January 10, 201114 yr comment_341466 ineesting, hopefully it retains its original rigidity and strength. They are obviously meant to hold up to engine temps. so it should work fine after forming.Let us know how things turn out.Dave Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38199-hoseturning-a-cat-into-a-zed/#findComment-341466 Share on other sites

Polecat:) There are some braided hoses that kind match the original ones at speed shops out there. As I introduced them few years back, they look like these. But real-original-material-formed-braided hoses are coming in Spring. I will keep you posted. January 11, 201114 yr Author comment_341588 Ok Here is a update on the hoses that I shaped. After a full 24 hours, they still retained there shape and are flexible. So far OK. The old decreptid hose is the one on the left in each pic as to the new Jag hose thats been reshaped. Esprist, how much do you think those hoses well be when they are available? And well the set include the early 72 manifold to check valve hose? Thats the one that cant be found. April 13, 201114 yr comment_352665 That might be a good option for making the formed fuel vent hose that's so expensive... Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38199-hoseturning-a-cat-into-a-zed/#findComment-352665 Share on other sites
