Unfinished projects

Hey guys (and girls), how many "unfinished" projects do you have currently underway? Personally, I have my 444, which like my Z, will never be "finished", but I have a 57 International that I intend to restore, a 52 Chrysler Windsor Deluxe that needs about 10 hours to be complete, a turbo 77 that is begging to be finished, both persimmons Z's to finish, not to mention the house, which I started remodeling 8 years ago and intend to finish when "there is time and money at the same time".

I ask this question to put it all in perspective. I just underwent a routine surgery to have a bone spur taken off my heal (its been an issue for a couple of years but finally got around to having it fixed). Long story short, I got a major blood clot in my leg and it has been day to day for the past week or so whether I'd ever get to finish any of my projects.

So now my list of projects to finish are getting my living will in order, something I've been putting off for ever, getting a will in place, and getting a new list of priorities line up; getting a daughter lined up for the rest of her college, getting a list of important papers together so someone could find them, etc.

I know that if I were to read something like this on this board, like others, I'd go "bummer", I'd give it some thought, and I'd put it on a list of things to get done. But maybe, even if one person gets this important stuff done, it will make a difference.

Doc says I am at the 50/50 stage but at least it is moving up. I look at the unfinished projects and really wish I had more of them into the finished side of the yard but focus has never been my strongest suite.

So, take a minute, decide what projects are most important to get finished in the event, any event, you don't get a chance to get back to them. Things happen fast and they don't always happen to the other guy.

I plan to post a pic of my finished car in April or May!

Thanks for the help along the way!

Leonard

I really have too many projects and I am always looking for good project cars. It is sort of a sickness;) I don't know if I will live long enough to finish all of my projects. At least my kids will have something to work on.

I have a 70z on the rotisserie, a 73 mach1 totally disassembled, another 70z that needs the rear axles put back in it, a 73z that needs an exhaust and alot of tuning, a 66 thunderbird that is very rusty, a 66 thunderbird coupe that doesn'trun, a 95 suburban that needs engine work and the addition on my house needs to be finished. Oh I almost forgot 56 VW bug one owner bought by my dad new in 56 in Germany (needs full resto). I totally understand how quickly life can change. I buried both of my parents in the last 3 years or so, both of whom were very healthy until we found cancer. After being the person that is left behind and trying to find the will, the deads , the life insurance policies, etc. I can't stress enough to my friends how big a difference it makes if those you leave behind know where the important stuff is.

I hope you blood clot dissolves ok. I'll say a little prayer for you.

As for my unfinished projects. The real problem is not if they don't get finished by me. In the big picture of things that doesn't matter as much as taking care of my family and making the most out of every day. The other problem is no one will every be able to figure out which parts go to which cars and which parts ar spares. In the last couple of years I have tried to be more diligent able labeling the parts as they come out of each car, and keeping them grouped together in my shop. I still don't know if someone would be able to sort out the mess. Just think a big ball of string and trying to untangle it.

Charles

PS: Deep south... snowed in today:)

Focus is hard to get when you have so many things going on. I have way too many projects as well and I need to get my affairs in order - so to speak.

Currently with three cars in slings, garage half finished, basement started, paper work everywhere and like most... an outdated will.

Thanks for the reminder.

Good luck.

Garage pic attached - shelled in only.

Cripes Leonard,

Unfinished projects, I'm not even going to go there. The important thing is...YOU GET BETTER! You're in my thoughts, and I want to see those pics in April or May (but I'd rather see you and the car in person!!).

Ah, gee, the question was depressing enough (from my perspective), but I'm so sorry to hear about your clot! Get some rest, follow doctors' orders religiously, and get better quickly, OK?

Meanwhile I think I'll start pondering how important it will be to get around to putting my affairs in better order!

Leonard, as the saying goes, life is a journey. Often we get to cruising along and it takes a sharp jolt to wake us to the practical matters that we must face in life. I will keep you in my prayers and hope for a speedy recovery from your blood clot.

Wow, that's scary. Hope you're back on your repaired foot soon and can install those shiny new parts before summer.

I have tons of 1/2 finished projects. Money is usually the main factor for me though. My street Z is on the road and drives great, but needs to be stripped and painted plus a hundred other nickel and dime repairs and upgrades. It's one of the reasons I like LeMons and ChumpCar racing so much. We painted my race Z with Rustoleum applied with foam rollers and it turned out great. From more than 20 feet away, it looks better than my street Z even though I have little money in it even with the roll cage and other safety equipment.

Keep us up to date on your health. Have a beer and enjoy life.

Enough to kill the rat. Becoming more afraid of the doc than the clot. 7.6 INR, should be 2.5. Maybe tomorrow........

Bought $560 in parts from the Black Dragon this afternoon though so remaining optimistic

And thanks guys :D

Leonard

You were running an INR of 7.5?!!!! :surprised

WOW, just WOW I have been taking Coumadin since July of 1991 and I have never had a reading that high. Because of the artificial valve in my heart I am supposed to keep my INR between 2.5 and 3.5 but when it gets up above 3.0 most dentists don't want to touch me.

(You should have heard the scolding that I got from my doctor when he found out that I had been working on my roof... ) :stupid:

I will add you to my prayer list. Take it easy for a few days until the INR gets back down to where it is supposed to be.

Wow...

We had a 49 year old gal have a seizure and died last week leaving behind her fiance and her beloved 620 pickup "Elvis". Great gal and a fitness researcher at the local University. Her Ex ransacked the safe deposit box now it's up to her fiance to try and find her will.

We have another Datsuner who has a garage and a storage unit or two, full of Datsun and Buick parts, near death from cancer. We are trying to help him get thru a "sort and sell" or "sort and scrap" but he's not having any luck in the energy department.

Steve Epperly's dad is 80 and needs to make 130 in order to get all his projects done. Good to have goals. The man wants to go back to Bonneville competitively again. How cool is that?

Leonard good luck my friend. I just heard about a Volvo shop in Eugene that is closing after 30 years of biz. Know anyone who might want to buy what I'm sure is a pile of obsolete Volvo stuff?
