Hey all,

Just purchased a 1 owner, unmolested, and unrestored 1974 260z to keep my Factory Five Cobra company.

Originally was thinking of doing a V8 conversion but am now thinking I'll keep it mostly stock.

Great site and I look forward to learning some more about the early Z's from you guys.

If you are interested in adding performance I would definitely NOT do a V8 conversion. Triple carburettors and maybe a few internal goodies will give you plenty of HP if that is what you desire and you will not have CONVERSION REMORSE. Your rig looks SWEEEET!

That is a nice 260Z I hope you enjoy it. I don't normally see a 260Z in that shape and the early 74's are very hard to find. I think the early 74 will get more recognition and increase in value a bit more and start to get closer to the 240Z prices. The bumpers don't stand out as bad as the latter years, and don't seem to detract from the overall shape of the car. Wecome nice to have you join us.

I think he might want more power than some mods can put out if was wanting to make it have the same power normally put into a factory 5 car. Yet he could be looking for a nice balance over power. By the way do you have flattops in your car (refers to the top of the dash pot being flat the earlier carbs are better and rounded)?

Knew I could be stepping into a hornets nest with the mention of a motor swap, but I've changed my mind on that one, it's staying original, with a few HP upgrades---open to suggestions there.

I feel a bit lucky to find one this nice and I think it deserves not to to butchered up.

I'll post some more pictures when I'm home from work tonight.

Upgrades to look at are exhaust system and immobilizing the smog system to start. The exhaust manifold isn't that bad of a design I'd look at what you want first before getting the headers (to match what you want). Carb setups you have a lot of choices if you find the parts. Changing the head is an option you can go with a turbo type head or for NA an e31 head that can be modified to fit the 280Z valves. Cam changes even machining or increased stroke. Then you can also look at drive-line changes, and so on.

I think the question is what you want the car to do and how far do you want to go to do it?

That is one sweet 260Z..I looked at it when it was for sale and thought it was a great platform to play with. My black one is gone but I have a 1/74 260Z as well back here in Ontario now.

Hi Dean, The car was sold to a fellow who took it back the the Northwest Territories. I think you did much better in the end as this 260Z looks fantastic. My newest Z is in better condition as well, no rot, low mileage but still needs a little tlc to make it right. I think you easily have one of the nicer Z cars in BC now.
