Posted January 27, 201114 yr comment_343593 The chat on the previous thread reminds me that I have three 240 brake boosters laying around the garage, none of which I can be sure is any good. Does anyone here have any experience with rebuilding these things? Is it a job the backyard / home handyman mechanic should be attempting. Special tools? Thanks,Richard McDonel Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38388-brake-booster/ Share on other sites
January 27, 201114 yr comment_343594 I was looking into rebuilding the booster myself, only because Black Dragon carries the kit to do so, but I have not set any time aside to tackle the project. March 22, 201114 yr comment_350382 I am refurbishing my '72 240Z and have been trying to find a brake booster. Mine was working when I took the car apart a year ago but the repair manual says to rebuild this thing every three years. I am the original owner and know that the booster has never been rebuilt. It worked for 38 years and as far as I know it still works. BUT, I cannot find a rebuild kit. Every place I look is out of stock (Black Dragon, Z Car source, Z car of arizona). I'm not sure they make the kits anymore. Anybody know where to get a rebuild kit? March 23, 201114 yr comment_350389 This is something I am interested in as well or possibly a booster upgrade. I seem to remember a thread that said it is possible to fit a 260Z or a 280Z booster to your 240Z and that it was actually bigger than provided more boost but I can't seem to find the thread. March 23, 201114 yr comment_350403 Here are some pics I grabbed off the net of a 280zx booster on a 240z. Some extra mounting holes seems to be all that is required. Unfortunately I have not been able to edit my tech tips for years so I have not been able to add these great items that are on my hd. I'll keep the Classic Z site well stocked from now on btw I have a feeling other boosters from other Japanese cars will work with minimal mods. March 25, 201114 yr comment_350770 http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40535&highlight=brake+boosterI just replaced mine with one from advanced auto. There was a hiccup or two. But in the end, my car has working power brakes for the first time since I owned it! There is a member in my post that said it was very hard to rebuild the booster, as some of the tools are not available.. or something.. anyway check it out, it may help.
