Posted January 28, 201114 yr comment_343744 Well after finally retiring, having both my knees replaced, I am back on my 72 Z. Got the welder out and brushed up on my welding and now ready to start on the floorpans. One question is the floorpan bracers/stiffeners. Do I weld them to the pans before installing the pans? My car is on jacks so getting clear access to weld them on after the pans are in place. Thanks, as things progress I am sure I will have more questions.Jimmy Elmore Charleston, SC Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38403-replace-floorpans/ Share on other sites
January 28, 201114 yr comment_343748 Jimmy, I welded mine on after I had the pans in place in the vehicle. I don't see why you couldn't weld them in place first unless you need them to be somewhat flexible to get the pans in place. I'm sure others will have some thoughts on this.Bob Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38403-replace-floorpans/#findComment-343748 Share on other sites
January 29, 201114 yr comment_343755 Jimmy I welded mine in first so that I could paint them on the inside before they were closed up. All I did was clamp the floors in where they would finally be and lined up the supports and spot welded them in. Then just removed the floors, welded in the supports and painted them. I then put the floors back in and marked the bottom around the support to mark where to drill holes to plug weld the floors to the supports so they look like the factory spot welds.Jeff Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38403-replace-floorpans/#findComment-343755 Share on other sites
January 29, 201114 yr comment_343771 Thanks to both of you. Project 3/72 will need floors as well so I will pay close attention to all floor pan threads. Also undergoing full restoration. Currently sandblasting the HELL out of it! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38403-replace-floorpans/#findComment-343771 Share on other sites
