Posted February 2, 201114 yr comment_344287 Hello there. I just purchased an 76 280z in fairly nice condition. However, I notice a few things that are differenet than my 78 Z that I had many years ago. With that, I thought I might ask a couple of questions to the wiZe:1. There is no spare tire or rear board to cover the spare tire. Does the 76 not have the same cover board as the 78? If not, is there any board that lies beneath the carpet...and if so, does anyone have any idea where I can get one? (perhaps adapt a 77/78 cover board?)2. The rear rubber bumper "sight shield" is cracked in several spots. Any idea where one can pick up another....or even make another?I hope having two questions in one posting is appropriate. Please let me know if I need to do anything different. Thanks in advance for any insight. February 2, 201114 yr comment_344290 Stephen, The 76 doesn't have a cover like the 77-78. There is no rise on a 76. You can make a template of the rear out of newspaper or cardboard then copy it to the material of your choice i.e. plywood, chipboard, plastic. I did this on my 76 when I replaced the rear carpet with generic carpet from Walmart. I also replaced the space saver tire with a full size tire and this required a little more carpet than the original. I'm not sure what a bumper "sight shield" is but try MSA, Blackdragon, Zbarn, ebay, classifieds, etc. Good luck Dave Ruiz Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38444-76-280z-new-owner-questions/#findComment-344290 Share on other sites
February 3, 201114 yr Author comment_344350 Thanks Dave! I'll do just that...make a template. The Sight Shield is a piece of rubber (77/78 was metal) that goes between the bumber and the car....to hide the space between the two. I'll see if I can succeed in adding a pic. I do not like it as it harbors rust :ogre: Sorry I know this helps you out in no way. February 3, 201114 yr Author comment_344360 Think one has issues either way. Metal=rust (especially right where it touches the body). Rubber= cracks, shrinks, and very difficult to replace. Arrrgh!!If anyone has one laying around, I would be interested in buying it.
