Posted February 7, 201114 yr comment_344959 Have purchased a fairly nice 76 280z. There are a couple of items that I am working on and thought I would ask the group here:1: Would a center console from a 77/78 work fine (without mods) in a 76?2: Turn signal auto return does not work when turning left or right. Without digging into it yet, is there a general fix? I'm guessing I will have to dig into it to find out. February 7, 201114 yr comment_344962 1. Yes2. Don't know. Of all of the issues working on old cars, I have to admit that it has been lower on the list. February 7, 201114 yr Author comment_344963 Thanks. That opens up my options on the center console. Every where I have been looking seems to point that they are no compatible. I imagine that it is not restore "correct" for the year. Thanks again! February 7, 201114 yr comment_344965 Book mark this site. That way you can look up parts for compatibility purposes. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38501-center-console-and-turn-signal-question/#findComment-344965 Share on other sites
February 7, 201114 yr comment_344983 If it's an original steering wheel, the peg on the back of the hub may be broken off. If it's a replacement steering wheel, the peg may not have been put in.Aside from that, check the gates and see if they pivot freely.E Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38501-center-console-and-turn-signal-question/#findComment-344983 Share on other sites
February 7, 201114 yr comment_344994 I believe all center consoles from 74 through 78 will work, but the 74's have a choke slot. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38501-center-console-and-turn-signal-question/#findComment-344994 Share on other sites
February 7, 201114 yr Author comment_344995 Thank you all. Looks to be the original steering wheel. I'll definitely keep the book mark on compatibilty... That helps a lot. March 10, 201114 yr comment_348770 If your peg is still there, crack open the switch housing that is held on the inside of the blinker switch by two screws. Inside is the extremely simple mechanism that clicks your blinkers off.Make sure the spring inside is not damaged. If it is not, clean it up and put a little light grease (lithium grease or the like) on the plastic bits inside. This has worked for me in the past.
