February 11, 201114 yr Author comment_345406 I'm going to see the engine 2morrow but in his post it says it an l28 with ported head, cam, headers and carb set to a single holley carb. The engine has less than 3000 miles on it.that the only discription he has on it. February 11, 201114 yr comment_345447 My first question would be, who did the port work? If the answer is, "I did." I would want to know his qualifications. Did he just take a grinder to the head and call it "Race prept" and or did it go any further. i.e. Total tear down with all components properly measured and assembled. Has the Holly set up been debugged? Why is he selling it in the first place? Issues? Why not get a good set of S.U.s for your motor and save the hassle and money. Just saying, unless that engine was professionally rebuilt, with supporting and traceable documentation I would put the money into what I already have and am familiar with. February 11, 201114 yr comment_345452 From what I recall in your other posts, you're having difficulty getting your car to run right as it is now. I really don't think swapping out your engine for an unknown engine with a Holley carb it the answer. About all that will accomplish would be creating a different set of problems to troubleshoot. Who would be doing the engine swap and set up? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38547-efi-to-carb-swap/#findComment-345452 Share on other sites

February 11, 201114 yr comment_345458 IMO the Holley carbs are HORRIBLE. They spontaneously sprout leaks in nonserviceable areas, their micropassages are easily blocked, rebuilds are elaborate, and there is no such thing as a simple cleanout. And don't ever rip that little piece of silicone rubber on the accel pump, because it's worth literally more than its weight in gold -- just because they can. We'll be selling our Holley carb'ed boat this spring (not because of the carb), and I don't ever want to have another Holley. February 11, 201114 yr comment_345461 Those carb manifold setups are so valuable ask if they'll sell you the motor for half price and keep it...... Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38547-efi-to-carb-swap/#findComment-345461 Share on other sites

February 11, 201114 yr comment_345466 There is an old saying to the effect that: "Nothing is as good as or as bad as it first appears".Your engine problems need to be explored fully to find out just what is going on and even though this deal sounds perhaps brought to you through providence, it may in fact be a smoldering bag of well, you know. February 12, 201114 yr Author comment_345668 I decided to not get the engine and fix what ever is wrong on mine.I usually fix my own cars but this is driving me crazy, hopefully mike Z at the shop goes easy on the price. I eventually will swap the engine to an l28et Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38547-efi-to-carb-swap/#findComment-345668 Share on other sites
