February 14, 201114 yr comment_345911 Slightly off topic but I was looking at the photos of the ZG in Japan and saw this steering wheel. It claims to be original. Is that a high polished leather or something? It looks like a Nissan competition steering wheel, so I am not sure if it is really original to the car, or if it was added later. Although in Japan, Z's could be ordered much more customized than anywhere else. The comp wheel does come with a leather covering around the rim. That one probably has a dressing of some kind on it to make it look shiny. Probably not a good idea, as it would make it slippery.-Mike Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38590-what-z-is-this/?&page=2#findComment-345911 Share on other sites
February 14, 201114 yr comment_345915 It's the 48400-E4675 Nissan Sports Option steering known in the vernacular as the 'Datsun Compe'. Made by Izumi - the same people who made the OEM pressed wood composite steering wheels that came on our cars - it is based on the Japanese market centre and spokes ( different angle of spokes to the Export models ) and is 350mm in diameter. The rim is made from urethane, with 'stitching' detail moulded in, and would originally have had a light leather-look texture to it. This wears smooth in use, leaving the shiny finish you see above.NISMO made a limited-edition repop of these in celebration of their ( 15th? can't remember off the top of my head ) anniversary some years ago, and they - as well as originals - can appear for sale from time to time. They are usually 'reassuringly expensive'.....They are nice to use. I have them on a couple of my cars. Alan T. February 14, 201114 yr comment_345933 I paid quite a hefty sum for mine, but definitely a nicely made steering wheel. Unfortunately, I found out after mine was shipped to my door that it was rewrapped in leather. It is a nice leather however, and was not cheaply done... so I am satisfied They range from $300-800 depending on the condition, and I've seen the "limited-edition" repros that Alan mentioned go for above $1000. Since then the headlight covers and a custom front airdam/splitter has been installed.Engine is a Rebello 3.2L NA w/triple 44mm Mikunis making 314hp@crank and 258@rw on 93 octane.Car was awarded the "Mr. K" trophy at the '03 ZCCA convention and then taken directly out on the race track.
