Yes, Arne, you are correct. They did end up on Mike's yellow car for a spell. There is so much "try this try that" goes on around here, you can't tell the players without a program.

I vaguely recall reading something about pulses and firing order that made the triple SU's less efficient than the twin setup. Since the writeup was clearly beyond my limited scope of comprehension I didn't retain it all.

A few folks have built them and they run just fine, although getting the mixture right is very difficult. The cars tend to run rich because that's where you need to run the front a rear carbs to keep from leaning out 2 and 5 under power. They can work on a race track but few have even bothered. If the racing rules are open enough to allow triple SUs you can also run triple Weber two barrels.

Triple SUs are more a shade tree science experiment then anything else.

No not really other than working with needles. Being a variable venturi for most street applications an SU that's back to square one will do about all the average driver will need. And do it very well.

What would be the application?

We have a set of our standard production carbs on their way for the Targa Newfoundland as we speak.

John's right in at least one respect. If you were going to go to all the trouble run triple SU's, you could probably get more power and get done easier with triple Mikunis, Webers, etc.

Not really buying the mixture/pulse argument in terms of it works/doesn't work seeing as how so many British cars had three SU's from the factory. There might be some room to argue about optimization, but it's pretty clear that it does work.

There was a complete triple SU set for a Z car for sale in Surprise, AZ at the beginning of January. It was on Craigslist.
