the 240 fired up for the first time today.....

first off i bought the 240 that had been sitting for 2 years off some drug addict about 6 months ago for 1k which is a really good deal, the body and interior is really good for a 71, it had a "blown head gasket" supposedly as the owner told me when i bought the car not knowing, it turned out to have a cracked head so i got the head welded, shaved down, new valve guides etc........ so now i have finally gotten everything back together still not knowing if the tranny is good or what since ive never even seen the car start.

after going thru junkyards and finally putting the motor back together and getting everything done on my to do list today we had to hotwire my car and use a remote starter to start it because i found out my ignition is dead and doesent turn the car over, anyways i had trouble getting the firing order and timing right but got it to fire and sounds like i have some bad vaccum leaks and it seemed one carb was sucking and the other one wasent nearly as much, seemed to be misfiring and sounded like a open header tractor........ one brake light doesent work, turn signals dont work, just when i think im gonna be driving i opened a whole other can of worms, as much as a pain this process has been im still having fun, im just gonna have to start re wiring the car for now....

Hay good to hear another one on the road. Before doing rewireing contact escanlon he is the guru on these cars ! keep it to your self ! dont pass it on because he will get a swelled head. When it comes to the carbs look to Z therpy Bruce knows these things in and out . If you have never had SUs before do your self a favor and get a UNI-Sen from your local speed shop and ballance the carbs . Cant get along with out it! The best $25. you have ever spent , well unless you have been to the "Chicken Ranch" but that's another story. Enjoy the ride!
