Posted March 3, 201114 yr comment_348063 Just curious if anyone has done this. I have a friend who owns a coating company and seggested that while I have the head off being rebuilt I give him the exhaust manifold and down pipe to ceramic coat. I have done this on other vehicles and it really kept the heat in check but havent seen any Z's with this done. No performance mods just stock 71 240 with a L24 and E31 head. This will be a daily driver for my doughter and mostly looking for dependability. Also the price is right Eric Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38769-ceramic-coat-stock-manifold/ Share on other sites
March 3, 201114 yr comment_348065 Sounds like a good idea to me. Really hard to find OEM downpipes so the more you can do to extend the life of the one you have the better. If the price is right I'd do it.FWIW,Carl B. March 3, 201114 yr comment_348077 I'm considering it, pushing heat out of the engine compartment helps the longevity of the car Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38769-ceramic-coat-stock-manifold/#findComment-348077 Share on other sites
March 3, 201114 yr comment_348081 It's very expensive ($150.00).......I didn't notice any real advantage. Especially if you're running stock. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38769-ceramic-coat-stock-manifold/#findComment-348081 Share on other sites
March 3, 201114 yr comment_348087 After hearing stories about stress cracks in the exhaust stack in aircraft similar to my homebuilt I decided to use a ceramic coating on the exhaust system. I was simply amazed with how the coating pulled heat from the exhaust. Moreover, I have well over 1,000 hours on the cross-over system with zero problems. Others I know with the same exhaust system have had failures within a few hundred hours.Ceramic coating works. March 3, 201114 yr comment_348121 Is there some known problem with the stock exhaust manifold? I've got over 160K miles and never did anything to it. March 3, 201114 yr comment_348122 Ask your friend if he could coat the inside as well. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38769-ceramic-coat-stock-manifold/#findComment-348122 Share on other sites
March 4, 201114 yr comment_348148 Is there some known problem with the stock exhaust manifold? I've got over 160K miles and never did anything to it.Not really it is actually one of the better factory setups. The only problem I've seen on Z cars is the exhaust down pipe drooping a little. Heat cycle will do that over time.Ask your friend if he could coat the inside as well. This would be the biggest benefit when looking at longevity and heat reduction, the out side is more looks. March 4, 201114 yr Author comment_348152 "Ask your friend if he could coat the inside as well." He is a good friend of mine and I'm sure I could get a fair price for you. As we talked today he seggested also doing other parts as Cermakrome is much easier to clean than pollished aluminum. If there is enough intrest I could look into a group discount on coating, his company does porcilan, ceramic, ceramakrome, plasticoat, sand blast, soda blast, etc., etc. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38769-ceramic-coat-stock-manifold/#findComment-348152 Share on other sites
March 4, 201114 yr Author comment_348184 Sorry - read that wrong :stupid: but could still work out a deal if anyone else was intrested. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38769-ceramic-coat-stock-manifold/#findComment-348184 Share on other sites
