Did my starter died or what?

Yesterday i tried to start my Z for the first time in this year. I tried to start it but it wouldnt. That was expected as the car's been crancked 5 months ago.

Well i keep on trying but then i hear some strange rattle and i stop. Checked that everything was on its place and no loose bolts etc. Tried again with the rattle, double checked and after that just click and nothing. It wont even try.

Did my starter just die or what happened? I mean my battery wasnt full but not empy either, maybe 3/4 capacity.

Charge your battery before doing anything else.

Are you getting a clicking noise? Or just nothing at all. If a clicking noise explain it.

Just a relay click, nothing else. One click always when i turn the key.

Wait till you have a fully charged battery and try again. Some thing, feel the wires, and check the wire conections at the battery and starter. Try is again. If nothing take a test and test the wires make sure your getting power to the starter. Obviously if your not getting a power reading fix it. Next you should take it out of the car. I'd take the cylanoide sp? apart and make sure it didn't jam. Sorry back step hear in the USA most auto parts stores will check the starter out of the car for free make a call while the battery charges. Lets make sure it's the starter.

If it is bad you can rebuild it if you can get the parts I like doing this and I contact a starter and alternator rebuild shops to get the parts (they charge me about 3X what they paid, but try to find the parts on your own, it's well worth it). The thing I like is I tend to put more time into checking everything when I do it, so that spot that needed a little polishing or I use a better oil on this and thats . . .

You're probably not getting enough voltage to the solenoid either from a drained battery, or loose/corroded connectors causing a voltage drop. Many have had this issue so search and you'll find similar problems and solutions. First thing I would do is have someone turn the key while you check voltage at the solenoid.

And this would be an excellent time to pull the plugs before turning over the engine. Sitting for that long the bearings are dry and cranking the engine over with out compression pressure on dry bearings wiil allow the oil pump to get oil up in the system before being put under load. It's one of those old "you can pay me now or pay me later deals?

I once tried the same, then i pulled the starter, took off the relay, cleaned it up and it have worked ever since.

Still its good to have a spare, witch i have just in case.

Try to look at Ebay Germany, i have seen them there.

We have them in local auto parts shop, no worries in that. It seems my battery is dying. It is an original NISSAN battery, looks like few years old. I recharged it and cleaned all the contact surfaces. It seemed a little powerless.

Hey Bruce i have question for you.

I started the car using Motor Starter-spray. I sprayed it good and after it started i revved it up a little to keep it running. Guess i revved it too much as it shooted 1 foot flame from the carbs But it kept on running and after few minutes it idled perfectly. Is this normal or should i worry?

I hope you don't mind that is normal when you let a car sit and use that stuff.

Could you post pictures of the battery, I've wanted to see an original battery for these cars? If the core is still good you could replace the acid. If not their are battery rebuild shops for classic cars and you can have the battery rebuilt.

Well its not factory original battery but original NISSAN battery. I think you'll get these from any Nissan shop.
