I am replacing my old injectors and thought about replacing the holders and retainer plates. All the replacement holders look like they are made of plastic, my holders are aluminum. Is there a reason why they were changed to plastic ? should i just clean up my holders if they are not damaged and reuse them ?

I went and purchased the plastic holders and installed them along with new injectors today.

From what I recall (been a while since it was discussed in group) the best we could come up with was that the aluminum conducted heat to the injector and that may have caused problems. The blocks made of the more plastic-like material were just better insulators and material costs would have been cheaper.

Considering that the body of the injector predominately metal and it's screwed into an aluminum manifold, I don't see what difference the material that the holder is made of would make. I had aluminum holders on my 280Z and my 810 for the entire time I owned them without any problems. I'll buy the 'plastic is cheaper' theory however.

Direct swapped parts, more often than not (at least for the L24-L28 engine) I'll opt for the last of the technologies. They were the ones on the strongest of cars.

When I replaced mine, I also changed the hold-down bolts to stainless ones that received allan keys. Makes it a lot easier to get on and off, and the more bolts I can replace to run off allan keys, the smaller my tool kit becomes.

What I said isn't really feedback. Just an attempt to rebuke anectodal information. It really doesn't matter which you use. I've installed the plastic ones on other cars I've worked on in the past and they work just as well. The metal ones were my personal preference because they are original.

I always removed the rail with the injectors attached to it. That makes the job go quicker.

I got all new plastic holders for mine back when I replaced my injectors (All Genuine Nissan Parts.) I had the orig. Aluminum holders too, but I figured they are 30+ yrs of age and since I got everything taken apart, I'm going to do it right and reinstall with all new. The newer plastic holders are every bit as good I.M.O. If they weren't up to specs, Nissan wouldn't be using them as there "Genuine Part"
